exclamation Completly Stuck with Non Installing ATI Drivers 9700pro and hardware disabling itself

Hey, i woudl really appreciate some help here guys n gals

Heres my problem

I have a radeon 9700 pro the end.. (ha just kiddin)

I cannot get any drivers to install in windows xp for this card, i started a couple of days ago,
i got hold of Crashday (encase your wondering its a new(ish) racing game for pc), which has a bug which caused the game to run at lik 2fps on ati 9xxx series card, so i hunted the web looking for a makeshift solution, maybe a third party patch or a configuration to get the game working, until the developers came out with an official bugfix/patch,

so i read somewhere on a foriegn website that using a set of old omega drivers would fix the problem, so i was linked to these drivers "rad_w2kxp_omega_38205.exe" which i downloaded and installed and everything was fine, then i thought to my self hrm "perhaps if these drivers work okay then omegas latest drivers will work even better providing me with a high frame rate" so i went to omegas drivers and downloaded the latest omega drivers which use catalist 6.1 or something, and went to isntall these drivers and thats when it went wrong, i installed the new drivers without uninstalling the old drivers and it came up with the microsoft driver certification stupid box thing 4 times asking to continue installation so i clicked continue, etc.. etc.. and rebooted my machine, when windows loaded up i went to change the resolution through display properties and where it usualy says default monitor on radeon 9700 pro (omega xx.xx) it just said
defaut monitor on....
so i figured okay maybe the drivers didnt install properly so i reinstalled them, it came up microsoft driver certificaition thing 4 times rebooted and the same, so i went to device manager, and noticed that the graphics card had been disabled, so i enabled it and a little bubble came up from the system tray, new hardware found blah blah installing drivers etc.. reboot your machine, so i did, and went to change resolution and again , default monitor on ......(no display adator) so i checked device manager and again the hardware was disabled, so this time, i uninstalled omegas drivers, and removed any trace of ati drivers, i also used driver cleaner pro in safe mode to remove all traces. then uninstalled the display adaptor in the device manager, and rebooted the machine. i was presented with a bog ugly looking desktop in 4 colours, and began to reinstall omegas radeon drivers thinking to my self okay it should work now, so in go the drivers reboot and i have the exact same problem, change resolution and its "default monitor on "(again no adaptor)...... and the display adaptors have been disabled in device manager, so i uninstalled everything i tried to install standard ati drivers which gave me the following error
" ---------------------------
Severe
---------------------------
Setup was unable to complete the installation.

Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA

driver before running setup.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------"

so then i tried to install the latest DNA drivers, after uninstalling everything making sure the system was clean of old ati drivers etc.. etc.

but these didnt work either exact same problem.

so now im like wtf .......

has anyone got any ideas on hwo i can rectify this problem i have created for my self,
i have tried uninstalling reinstalling new drivers old drivers, omegas drivers, DNA driver Atis driver and an other drivers i could find, cleaing up old drivers safe mode re-enabling then reinstalling, manually selecting *.inf files etc etc etc...

has anyone got any idea why the hardware keep disabling its self? the only thing that has changed is the software.... argh....

please please some1 help me cause it sucks having a graphics card which isnt even working
i know its an old skool 9700 pro but it still did the job

i hope this has been and interesting read for you and *fingers crossed some1 will have the answer*

Hi, megaflea! Welcome to DH!

After using DriverCleaner to remove all traces of ATI files again, BEFORE you reboot, go to Device Manager and REMOVE/Uninstall whatever Graphics Adapter is showing up there. This will make Windows 'think' that your 9700 Pro is being uninstalled.

When you reboot and get into Windows, allow Windows to redetect that card and install whatever it wishes to install. After Windows is finished with its task of installing new hardware, then, WITHOUT rebooting, run the installation of whatever drivers you have chosen. Just make sure that the drivers you use are made for the version of Windows you're using. I do like Omega's drivers and have used them for years.

IF this method doesn't work, post back and we'll proceed with doing a MANUAL installation.

Good luck!

I highly recommend that you do a Windows REPAIR installation. That should recognize your card properly then and allow you to install drivers for it.

Seems something in your Registry is really messed up.

The only other way this sort of thing could happen is if, by chance, you don't really have a 9700 Pro....or if it's some '3rd party' type that Windows can't recognize. I'm sure, however, you know which card you have.
