Sad full screen scaling with ATi cards

Hi,

Sorry if similar topic had been post before.

I hv a 20.1" wide screen monitor (not laptop) and I found everytime full screen game will be stretched to fit the whole viewable area. I hv tried all catalyst versions and found only 2 options available; stretch to full and center timing. I chose Center timing and there was NO CHANGE at all, still the screen will stretch to full. What I actually need is stretch to full screen but with respective ratio, as NVIDIA driver can do long ago.

I have 2 pc with X800XT PE on NF3U, and X1900XTX on NF4U, both having the same scaling problem. If i know this I would hv chosen 7900GTX yesterday rather than this 'latest' ati card. damn noisy somemore.

Is there a solution for this, i.e. 3rd party software?

Thanks.

Whats the screen native resoultion?
Whats the the brand and model of the monitor?

names of the games your trying to play? Becouse non stardard resoultions you
may have to specify in the games config to get them in some titles.

It is a BenQ FP202W, 1680x1050 @ 60hz, DVI.

Warcraft3 @ centered timings:
This game does not have widescreen type resolution to select.
If the game resolution is set with verticle resolution < 1050 (i.e. 1024x768, 1280x1024), the centered timings will not work but stretched to full panel
If the game resolution is set with verticle resolution > 1050 (i.e. 1600x1200), the centered timings will work, but at actual resolution & ratio; so part of top and bottom game screen is cropped off due to 1200>1050

Other games like FFXI, applications like 3dmarks also the same.

There might be a half way hack of you have the Frozen Throne expansion. http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...opic.php?t=452
Also the monitor itself might operate differently when using the VGA connector instead.
