accelerox2

just ordered one of those nifty accelero x2 for my wifes 1800xl. veridians great review convinced me that it will be a great cross between very good cooling & very little noise. the new zalman was #1 choice but it costs over 30% more. i figured the accelero was the better buy.
anybody else got one of these? installation looks easy but just want to make sure there are no 'tricks' involved.

Nice, thats so cool, your a lucky man! Well ive used alot of ati cards in my time, so if ya need any help you can always PM me. And if you hate CCC as i do, just get ATi tray tools, its so good. Bout to buy my 7th ATi card in a few, so i can finally be happy in oblivion with HDR+AA. Post back with the oc on it, highest i ever got was 680/1360 on my card, stock cooler. Highest i ever used 24/7 was 650/1300, but im selling this card to a friend so i dont wana ruin it.

I was not happy with my Zalman 900-CU I had it installed for all of 30 minutes before I removed it and reinstalled the stock cooler. I have used Zalman products in the past and have had no issues . This is quite possibly my own fault as I am overvolting the GPU, raising the heat load. I am currently running the Danger Den Water Block and I could not be happier. Here are a couple pics

sweet water cooled rig.I'll be getting a x1800 xt.I'll put the accelero on it when i overvolt/overclock.
But doesn't the accelero put the hot aire back into the case.So aint that a problem?

Yes it does and could add a couple degrees to case temps, but if you have good airflow it should be minimal at best.

I have one on an AIW X1800XL and plan to put one on my X1900XT

if u mean case fans by airflow, then i got a 120mm in the back and a 80mm in the side.So i guess it won't be a problem right?

Did you have any problem screwing down the centre cross spring? i have been trying to put one on my x1800xl and with the washers in place the screws are too short to reach

Nope not at all, they are tiny little buggers but I got them installed without any issues

Use a jeweler's screwdriver set and a pair of needlenose pliers and it should be good.

that wont help, i mean the screws literally dont reach, they are ok without the little washers though

Strange, I thought the review made it pretty clear this is an iffy product. Who likes hot air blown directly into the motherboard?

Have you actually tried one of these coolers? They do a wonderful job and are almost silient. Like others have mentioned as long as you have good air flow inside your chassis, it should remove the majority of warm air you are referring to. I use one on an AIW X1800XL as does Veridian3 and they make the world of difference. If you dont have good air flow then the air from the cooler could be an issue.

Eh, I only have a 6800GS...

But who has a stream of air flowing under the video card anyway? My concern is that some mobos have capacitors placed there and blowing hot air on them doesn't look like the right thing to do. Nice to know they're doing their job though. Oh, and they're very light, right?

Umm everyone should have a stream of air blowing at the bottom, thats what intake fans are for....

Even still blowing hot air at the mobo isn't really much of a concern. The air isn't the same temperature as the GPU blowing out so it won't be like 70C air, its usually alot cooler... plus the hot air rises so it won't just be blown at it and stick there, it rises and gets vented out.

Moral of the story if you have proper airflow to begin with it won't be an issue

Im being incredibly stupid ! i was trying to still use the spring loaded cross shaped bit from the stock HS, having a look at the picture i can now see that this isnt used anymore ( so the screws will be long enough !
