X1900XTX - 2D/3D Mode Switching Issues

I realize that the screenshot i'll supply looks pretty much exactly like what it would look like if a card was overheating.

It was my first theory when I encountered the problem, but the times at which it occurs is what would make it rather odd. Most frequently this is something that will happen after first starting up and running WoW or when I alt-tab in and out of WoW (World of Warcraft). The temps for the card never hit anything ridiculous usually running 50C to mid 60C maybe a tad higher when it gets hot here.

Every time, the issue is resolved by just alt-tabbing out and back in again so it would seem like it's an issue with clocking itself up and down depending on whether you're on the desktop or running a game. I'm curious if there's anything I can do about it.

No driver changes seem to affect the issue. Whether Catalyst, Omegas, or Zer0points, regardless of revision.

i doubt it.. looks like a driver corruption issue.....

my x1900xtx occasionally will show corruption..

you running 6.4s? if so, backtrack to 6.3's and see..

I'm with Judas, dump the cat6.4 if you have it. Drivercleaner it away and install the 6.3.

Did you enable overdrive and what is it set too? I got similar corruption, albiet more triangular, until I knew how high I could clock it. The utility in the CCC works pretty decent but I had to clock the memory down another 10Mhz from where it set it, would get corruption with QuakeIV.

Well, I had installed 6.4s a few weeks back after running 6.3s figuring maybe something would change. I've not run a whole slew of various driver revisions on this, only 6.2s through 6.4s since that's about when I got the card.

I don't have Overdrive enabled so it's running completely stock. But we'll see how it goes. I'll drop back down.

If overdrive isn't enabled I'd say you have a dud card. Probably time to RMA it.
