Good card to game at 1280x1024....x1900 xt,do i really need it?
Hi all,
I'm planning on upgrading my comp and i'll be buying the components from Singapore. And i'm buying a gfx card as well. So i got about $450 to spend for it.That means that i could buy a x1900 xt but i would rather spend less on gpu and spend more for cpu, mobo etc.. So i got 3 options in the $300 above range,i.e the radeon x1900 gt,radeon x1800 xt and the geforce 7900 gt.I've heard that ati has better IQ so i think i'll go with them.So thats 7900 gt out. Then the other two.The radeon x1900 gt could be great card, but i don't think it'll be available in Singapore cause its not even there in Newegg. Then the radeon x1800 xt 512mb,it really caught my eye.But then ati stops producing it.So again theres a question of availability. So can someone help me out by clarifying whether the x1800 xt will be available.I'll be there from May 27th to June 4th. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. And P.S Here is the rest of the rig:- 1.SILVERSTONE SST-ST56F ATX12V/ EPS12V 560W Power Supply 2.OCZ Gold Series 2 x 1GB DDR2 667 Dual Channel Ram Kit 3.ZALMAN CNPS 9500 LED CPU COOLING FAN 4.Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G motherboard 5.Intel Pentium D 930 processor 6.ATI Radeon X1800XT 512MB GRAPHICS CARD?????? |

if there is not a large price difference go with the X1900XT for sure, while the X1800XT is a nice card the X1900 has much more power for today and tomorrow

Yea, the X1900XT will last you longer, and if you can afford it, you might as well.
You won't need it for 1280x1024 now, but in 6 months to a year you will be happy you made the choice today.

The X1900XT is what you need for playing at 2048x1536, hell a 9800 Pro is good enough in most games at 1280x1024!

Like someone said, in 6 months you'll be happier with a 1900XT. Not to mention Oblivion runs so much better on it as well, even at 1280x1024.

yeah but it doesn't justify paying an extra $100 for it,now does it.And the x1900 gt's are finally showing up in newegg. So i might keep an eye out for them too.

If you aren't going to get the x1900xt get the the 7900GT.. I think it's quite a bit faster than the x1800.. IQ is not that much different when you crank the settings up.. and using "high quality" not just "quality" in the CP.. Also it has transparency supersampling AA just like ATI's adaptive AA, and gamma correct AA etc..
Seems like you could get a faster card for less if not getting the more powerful x1900? Not sure about the prices there though, I have a feeling it is more expensive than rock bottom internet retailer prices over here.

X1900XT if you can afford it, X1800XT if you can't. And if thats not available get a EVGA 7900GT KO.

Isn't the 7900GT faster than the x1800? If it is also cheaper.. no reason to not get that even is the x1800 is available.

That's not a 7900GT "OC" version.. which can be pretty cheap.. and I wasn't talking about the x1800 512 version either..
I would like to see what prices he is paying for all these cards. That makes all the difference- without knowing that this whole discussion is speculative.

go for the 1900xt this will save u alot of money in the long run. it will justify the 100 extra dollar cost. trust me. plus u can turn all the eye candy you want with this card. and u wont have to replace it for a very long time
