ATI X850 Memory Problems

Pentium 2.4ghz 800mhz FSB
1.75GB DDR400 (PC3200)
ATI X850 Pro
Windows XP Pro, SP2 installed

My system was working perfectly prior to installing Omega ATI 6.5 drivers. Upon installing the drivers and WDM drivers, my grahics performance is way down. The screen flickers periodically, web-site scrolling in Exlporer is jerky, at best. Star Wars Galaxies runs an error saying it does not detect an system video memory despite the card being a 256mb card.

I have only installed Omega 6.5 and the ATI Tools tray that comes with it. i have not messed with ANY settings as I am unsure what they all really do.

I would have searched for this as it seems like it should be something easy and common, but the search feature is currently not working.

Please post your thoughts on what I might look into to get this problem resolved.

I am also pretty new to video cards in general. One thing that may definitely be the problem is that you did not run a driver cleaner program prior to installing the omega drivers. You need to do this before installing any new video drivers (conflicts may arise due to old drivers vs. new). You can get a driver cleaner program by "googling" or by going to your card manufacturer

The ATI Catalysts from 6.2 - 6.5 are very slow in some games, so any Omega drivers based on these will also be slow.

I've found the Omega Drivers based on the 6.1 catalysts to be the fastest on my X850XT.

that looks like there's no hardware acceleration, run dxdiag & check the display section to see if all 3 things are enabled

6.5omega's fine for me (x800xtpe)
