x1900 xtx vpu recover problems...

Hi everyone...new here...

I have an ATi X1900 xtx since mid august, I had an HIS x800 xl before that I loved....
unfortunately my time with the new X1900 xtx has not been that great so far...I am playing mostly racing games like GTL (Gt legends) and I get VPU error messages randomly after usually 5 to 20 min of gaming..but mainly when I switch from the racing itslef back to the menu... stange a bit...

I got the problem first when I got the card with the 6.7 installed, I tought the card was overheating, so I installed ATITools to crank up the fan...it solved the problem (well I think it did because it did not happen again for the short time I used them before the 6.8)....now the card reach about 70-72c under load and about 45c on idle (based on ATItools...hope it is reliable!!!)...so it is not overheating anymore.

But I decided to install 6.8...and since then the problem has come back ...the game lockup for 2 to 5 sec randomly..and sometimes I get screen artifacts....In ATItools I had setup the fan at 100% last nigth to do a test..and after 15min of great game play..the game locked up gain for about 5 sec and I heard the fan come back to its default speed... I checked the max temp during the period...about 71c...so no overheating again...

The card is not overclocked...(never been)... system is not also... I have a good PSU (Enermax Liberty 620w).... I am starting to wonder if I need to go back to 6.7 or install the Nforce4 fix (but I could not find what this thing does exactly....)

As anyone experienced something like this ? I read a lot of previous experience but people seemed to have overheating problems....which is not the case here I think.... could it be a Nforce4 problem with the xtx card ?

any expert advice would be welcome! I will probably go back to 6.7 tonight to test

here is my system specs...

amd 3500+, ASUS A8nSLI DLX, 2gb corsair 3200, enermax liberty 620w, ATI X1900 xtx, win xp sp2, Dell 1905w LCD...

tx!

Also worth trying is to simply disable VPU recovery. I´ve never ever had it enabled and my system runs perfect.

If that doesn´t help, try installing that hotfix.

tx guys!

as for the bios...the fans are already at their max (quite noisy!! )....but maybe the 1.5v could help...

I also I got a thermaltake case with 7 fans in it (smaller 80mm ones..but still)....cable management is good...so I should have a good case flow...anyway never had temp problems before that XTX card...

I will try the bios if nothing else works....

k, remember you need to use the latest version of ATIWinFlash...
google it and you will find it.
Just start it up and tick force then browse to the bios and then press program.

remember to make a backup of your own bios before flashing just incase but im like 98% sure this bios will fix all your problems.
