Asus x800xt PCI-E - CRT going to sleep after driver install

Lately, the only ATI Cat driver that will work properly on my PC \CRT is the 6.6 Cats or earlier drivers. When I attempted to use the 6.7 drivers a while back, the resolution kept dropping down to 640x480 (after a restart). So I went back the Cat 6.6 with no problem. Then I tried the 6.8 Cats, and after the Win XP logo, my CRT would go into sleep mode (amber light). At this point, I rebuilt my PC (it was long overdue) and I thought these strange driver issues would go away. They didn't. The 6.8, and the 6.9 install fine, but after a restart the monitor goes to sleep after the XP logo. So I'm using the 6.6 drivers with no problems at all. I tried using driver cleaner last night in an attempt to fix this with no luck. Remember, I rebuilt my PC and used the 6.8 Cats and had the same problem immediately. Thanks in advance for the help.

System Specs

Hey. Is there any way you can plug the PC into a TV via the S-Video cable? That happened to me once on my X700, and what it did was set primary active display to the TV. After you have picture, you can navigate and set your CRT back to primary.

Same thing will happen if you use your DVI monitor as the primary monitor then the DB-15 is on secondary, it assumes the analog connector is automatically the default primary source

Dark Paladin is an unknown quantity at this point

if the catalyst 6.6 drivers work just use them don't always try to get the new drivers just because they are new. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
