Connect 3d X1600pro

I have had this x1600 pro form connect3d for awhile now and have yet to get any drivers past 6.4 to work with it. as of right now I am supposed to have 6.9 drivers installed and the computer runs, but without 3d acceleration. under display properties in control panel chip type dac type memory size bios info all show up unavailable. I spoke to an ATI rep a few months back and they stated it was a bios issue with some connect3d and saphire x1600 cards and they couldnt help me... Has anyone come across a fix for this issue??

Try their website for an updated bios file. Also when upgrading drivers use drivercleaner from this site to clean windows driver files under safe mode. The install lastest driver. I would recommend the latest omega drivers links are on the homepage. GL

This is a clean install of windows with no previous ATI drivers Only omega drivers before 6.4 work just like ATIs I have not seen any bios updates for connect3d x1600 cards...

Are you using the official ATI drivers with the Catalyst Control Panel? If so, and since this is a new install as well, don't forget to install the Microsoft Dot Net files as they are required to run the CCC. While this might not seem like much, it might be related.

For that card, I agree. They use a very loud, and very small cooler for it. Such crappy cooling.

Something occured to me while looking into this. A number of times I've seen posts from Connect3D users that have had a similar problem, and every time it's driver related. Specifically, it's always about Connect3D X1300/X1600 cards that are missed by the official Catalyst drivers. This would explain why the things are not installing properly, however, the corrected driver everyone keeps mentioning is the 6.8 ones from them directly, which you can get on THIS page (3rd listing).

To check, here's what I need you to do. I assume that you currently have the 6.4 official drivers installed, right? If so, go into Device Manager, expand the Display Adapters section, and select the first display adapter listed (not the secondary one). In the next window that pops up goto the Details tab. The very first listing should be Device Instance ID. What I need you to do is to write down the number you see after this listing: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV. It should be one of 3 listings: 71C0, 71C2, 71CD, or 7181. If not, then official drivers do not support the card. Also of note, the 7181 listing is new, btw, and if it that number is being listed in Device Instance ID then I would try out the new official 6.9 drivers as they now support that one.

Can't figure it out. From the looks of things the bios indicates it's one of the original X1600 Pros from them (full sized board design, not the new slimmer ones), and the Device ID is on the list of supported cards in the installation file. Wierd.

Questions for you: Are you using an 3rd party tools, such as ATI Tray Tools? Do you uninstall them/it whenever you change your display drivers? Make sure that you uninstall any tools such as these before you change your display drivers. Also, have you tried any of the latest 3rd party drivers, such as Omegas, NGOs, or Driver Heavens? Do they work properly?

Not sure what else to recommend other than trying out some of the latest 3rd party drivers, such as Omegas new ones based on the Cat 6.9 drivers.

well here is the other odd thing... normallly when I go from 6.4 to any newer drivers the computer boots into windows and everyhitng is running fine with the exception of 3d accelleration, under display properties it will not list card type memory size bios type, no info on card. With the third set of drivers from the list you sent windows acts like it is going to start then the scrren goes bank and it reboots...

Exactly the same problem here :/

I get a BSOD while running some games. I get a KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR error or something. I read it could be a memory prob, but I tested it and its not. My bet is the video, since I have never got the blue screen outside a game. But dunno anymore. Its a whole new PC, so it might take me a while to figure out what the prob is Ima reinstall everything on a diferent hard drive later, just to check things. I doubt its the mobo or CPU, or could it be? hehe

BTW, the driver in the Connect3D webpage does the same thing, reboots the system over and over You guys think anything can be done?

Thanks in advance,

Chofo

LAST INTERESTING TIDBIT OF INFO. THIS IS A PCIE CARD ON A MOTHERBOARD BASED ON A VIA CHIPSET. I HAVE READ ABOUT SIMILAT PROBLEMS ON AGP BASED X1600 CARDS AND ON VIA CHIPSET BASED MOTHERBOARDS BUT IN THIS CASE i AM BETTING ON THE CARD... ATI HAS BEEN LESS THAN SPECTACULAR WITH SUPPORT STAYING IT IS A GRAHPICS CARD BIOS ISSUE. CONNECT 3D HAD SAID IT IS A DRIVER ISSUE.... AGAIN NO LUCK WITH ANY DRIVERS AFTER 6.4 ... ALSO I HAVE THIS SET UP TO DUAL BOOT TO VISTA RC1 AND I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM THERE. THE ORIGIAL RELEASE OF VISTA USED AN EARLIER ATI DRIVER THAT ACTUALLY WORKED WITH THIS CARD RC1 USES A NEWER DRIVER AND ALTHOUGH IT BOOTS, THERE IS NO 3D ACCELERATION....

Connect 3ds officail response

[paul - 12/7/2006 10:16:32] Hi, thanks for your message and sorry to hear you are experiencing problems. We are not aware of any BIOS updates for this, however if there is no problems with your current driver then we would advise you to stick with it until a later version comes out that will support every card like it should do. But if you have any difficulties with this, please let us know. Thanks Paul

[you - 7/10/2006 6:20:31] This is still an ongoing issue no drivers above 6.4 will work, ATI support says there is a known issue that can only be corrected with a bios update. I hve 6.9 drivers installed now and in display properties it says bios info unavailable dac unavailable memory unavailable adapter string unavailable

[paul - 9/10/2006 9:34:13] Hi, thanks for your message and for letting us know. Unfortunately we still do not have an updated driver and are not aware that a BIOS update will solve this issue, if ATI believe this, have they not offered this to you via download or told you where to obtain it?. Hope all remains well, however if any queries or problems please keep us posted. Kind regards Paul

I firmly believe ATI they stated it was an issue with the bios in the card. They flat out told me connect 3d needed to fix this problem and that it was a known bug with some x1600s made by saphire and connect3d. ATI knows but nobody else seems to. In short we are shit out of luck... stick with 6.4 and by a DX10 card when they are released!!!

That sucks.

Well, the only piece of advice I can give you is to try fooling around with the settings. Such as if your motherboard has onboard video be sure to have it so that your PCIE card is the card it tried booting to first, and if your motherboard has PEG support within the bios you might want to try turning it off or changing the settings to something other than the default.

Also, since you have a VIA board you may want to try fooling around with different versions of the Hyperion Pro driver. The newest ones are HERE, the archive for the older ones HERE. It could be an incompatibility somewhere between the two drivers (VIAs and ATIs).
