Mobility x600 FPS
I find my video card quite wierd from time to time. Wierd thing is, if I clock the GPU and the Memory speed the same as other cards, it will only increase my FPS by like 20 in ATI Tools. I was reading up on some of the other cards people have here with insane FPS rates of 500 and so I decided.. "let me OC my card just a bit to see if my FPS can get 270 like these other guys" it actually only raises about 20 FPS, not really sure why it's not all that amazing but, I'd actually like to know what the cause of it is.
Right now I'm default clocked at 400 GPU Speed and 250 Memory Speed, and in WoW it gets me a pretty solid constant of 40 FPS, but I'd actually like to raise that. If someone could fill me in, that'd be appriciated :] Last edited by SieRobin; Dec 4, 2006 at 07:39 PM. |

If you're using a Mobility part, that's likely why you don't see the same frame rates, the mobility VPU is more optimized for power savings than it is for performance, and IIRC it isn't the exact same core as the regular X600 so that's why you're not seeing identical scores.
Also take into account CPU, RAM size and speed differences between your system and systems you're comparing to, though it does look like you're running a pretty decent system. Sometimes laptops just behave differently because of power management too so perhaps you're running on battery affects how you score, or the power profile you're using. Could be anything really. |

I can OC my Memory with really no heat differences, which is kind of nice, I haven't tried much of GPU as I don't want to have something go wrong with it. I heard somewhere that you can actually bios upgrade it to an x600xt, is this true? |

Probably not on a laptop since it isn't so much a card with its own BIOS as it is just another module on the motherboard... right?

No I don't believe it's onboard actually. It has it's own fan and all as well as a hatch to open to get to it easier. I found it quite odd also.

Yeah but it isn't quite the same as a discrete graphics card for a PC, those are designed for upgradeability in some respects where as laptops rarely are (more and more these days but still not the same as the PC market)

Not too sure though, I'd have to open it and see I suppose. Other then that it's a decent card, I just wish I could push more out of it than what I have. Is there any guides about tweaking a mobility card?

That's a general tweaking guide but other than that I'd just Google or download ATI Tray Tools or ATI Tool then spend a few hours fiddling around with it
