Getting rid of 9800PRO
OK, I'm looking to change my old 9800 for something better. The card as to be in AGP, and as to fit with my old Barton XP 3200+. I know the 7600GS would be a good compromise, but I don't know what would be the best choice with ATI. So if you can help me guys, that would be great.
Thank You! |

Check out the discussion on the X1950 AGP version...
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/amd-graphics-cards/122612-new-agp-card-coming-x1950-pro.html Might skip the first few pages, but a few companies are finally getting them to market. |

Thank you for the suggestion, but that's gonna be too pricy for my budget.

if you want to go NVIDIA, you might want to look into getting a 7800GS. it'll outperform you 9800 by a large margin, but still not as expensive as the x1950pro

Thank you for all the suggestions guys, but I think I'll still go with the 7600GS.

if you're going w/the 7600GS, why even bother? It won't be anything too significant in terms of performance increase, and because of that, you might even be dissapointed in the performance difference between the two cards. IMO, if you'll be going w/that card, you should just save your dough, and keep your ATI card.
but it's your money, so spend it how you wish. |

OK well, I don't want to spend a lot of money.... But 300$ for a card at this time, it's quite expensive for me (i.e 7800GS). Maybe, the X1600 could do the trick, or is it like the 7600, I won't see any big differences in performance?

aside from the extra features, features such as HDR and SM3.0, of whatever card you go with, you won't really see much of a performance increase if any.

Oh well..... You made me change my mind. I'll have to wait until I finish high school before I get a brand new computer.

i might as well pop in the question,
i currently has a desktop with an fx5900xt 128mb, if i were to upgrade to a 7600GS 256mb ddr3 or x1600pro 512mb ddr2 , would i see any significant power boost? |

i forget if the 5900 has the 256bit memory bus. but if it doesn't and only has the 128 bit memory bus, then you may actually see an improvment in IQ. but because your card only has 128Mb of ram, you might actually see an improvment on both FPS and IQ.

The 7600 seems to be cheaper... I think they perform roughly the same... so why not get the cheaper card?

i'm living in singapore and the prices aint any cheaper...
current market prices for a LeadTek A7600GS 256MB DDR3 = 199SGD, LeadTek A7600GT 256MB DDR3 = 279SGD and a Sapphire X1600 Pro = 209SGD... if converted, is that the pricing you guys get over there? |

Converting it wouldn't be a 1:1 comparison, but looking at a local place in Canada the X1600XT and 7600GT are within $5 of eachother.

Annoying how the equivalent ATI cards are more expensive than the Nvidia ones that perform the same. Looks like a 7600GT for me if I ever upgrade my PC (hopefully soon).

7600GT would be the equivalent.
