Well, it's very possible that the 9800 Pro demos will attempt to use the 9800-specific F-Buffer, if it thinks you've got a 9800. The 9800 softmod is only supposed to enable the 9800-specific renderer optimizations, the F-Buffer is not present. Do the 9700 demos work?
The 9800 demos run on my 9700, but there's no softmodding here.

The only mod I have put onto my 9700 Pro, is a heatsink and fan.. Im not overclocking it, nor have I softmodded, or hard modded it into anything else.. Its just a 9700Pro.. Period.. Plays the chimp demo smooth as butter.. I dont see why you should have problems to begin with, other than modding stuff excessively..

the real fix though is not useing AA 6x if you use 6X you will get the error. change it to 4x and it works perfect. hope this helps.

![]() just make shure your memory timeings are at the fastest and also set your mobo to turbo mode. if you have more questions just ask. |

I had this error too and found that it was to do with the agp not being enabled correctly. Found in Dxdiag that the AGP Texture Acceleration was ghosted out and that I wasnt able to enable it, all games and d3d stuff would just crash, in the end I had to flatten my machine and reinstall as i thought it was to do with ACPI being enabled. However after a complete reinstall with out ACPI enabled it was still doing it!!!! Doh ! Eventually tacked it down to a problem with the modifyed cat drivers to enable 9800 lines. Seems to be working so far fingers crossed, I can tell you I dont want to go through yet another installation and an activation again for a while!!!!
