Radeon 9600 Pro Overclocking @ Hardocp

Quite a few people have been mentioning the lack of performance of the 9600 compared with the 9500, this article at Hardocp sure makes interesting reading !! This card overclocks like hell !!!
---------------------

Looking back on our latest review of the Radeon 9600 Pro, we found that there were some issues regarding the utilities necessary to test this card's overclocking ability. Mainly, the issue was the lack of any utility that could properly recognize and alter the default core and memory speeds for this specific graphics card.

Yesterday we received an email from one of our readers that contained an interesting bit of information. In his message, he asked if I had tried using the new RadClock utility. This wonderful bit of software is currently only available for Windows 2000/XP users and provides them with a convenient overclocking tab within the traditional ATI driver screen.

They hit a stable core frequency of 567MHz!!!!

Needless to say, we were shocked by the incredible overclocking ability of this graphics card. With a stable core frequency of 567MHz, we were operating the card no less than 167MHz above the default frequency! With a simple movement of the slider within the drivers, the card was suddenly given an almost 50% increase in core frequency. Given the card's already high frequency, this is certainly an impressive accomplishment.

In terms of memory frequencies, it seemed as though the card had ample room to improve here as well. By default, the memory on the Radeon 9600 Pro was running at an effective frequency of 600MHz. As we saw in the review, the memory modules seen on this card are rated for 700MHz. Therefore, we were not surprised to see the card easily reach 700MHz and continue onwards. In fact, the memory modules ran completely stable up to a final frequency of 716MHz! With these memory frequencies combined with the insane core frequency, we were sure to see some dramatic improvements in the benchmark results.

Something else I noticed-- they never OC ALL the card- only the "main" one they are reviewing. Why not? Why did they compare it against a stock 9700pro? That is misleading to noobs. I think if they OC even one card in a review, they should give you the OC score of the other cards, it just makes sense. We all know that there is no set OC limit or standard for ANY card, but they could at least push the cards they have and state that fact. This isn't directed toward one site or reviewer, it is a universal practice and it doesn't make any sense.

We don't need to be spoon fed, show us the real deal!

i agree.
let's see 9500pro O/C vs 9600pro O/C.
For know 9500pro leads in stock speed

actually I am sure they will compare the cards overclocked at some stage, I think in this review they were more concerned with seeing just how much they could overclock the new 9600 pro and how that card would compare overclocked to other stock models. Like the expensive 9700.......

As you saw in our test results, the overclocked RADEON 9600 PRO is quite a performer. In some cases, not only is it capable of outperforming the overclocked, 8-pixel pipeline RADEON 9500 PRO, it can even give the RADEON 9700 PRO a run for its money! This is a dramatic change from the impressions we were left with after the RADEON 9600 PRO review. In fact, many of you were left with even more sour feelings towards the RADEON 9600 PRO and expressed them in the news comments. With the price advantage RADEON 9600 PRO is expected to enjoy over RADEON 9500 PRO, the 9600 PRO could be a very compelling upgrade alternative, especially if our overclocking experience holds true for other RADEON 9600 PRO cards from ATI and its partners.
EDIT: erg, didn't see the post by Newsfactory
