Why is my HD2900XT running at like half it's clocks?
Ok so I just figured out why this card has been less than amazing to me. I have checked with Ati Tool 0.27 and AMD's GPU tool and they both say that my 2D and 3D clocks are the exact same running at 509Core and 510 Mem. I don't know if this is a defect in the card or if it's because I'm using the dual 6 pin power connectors and not the 8 and 6 combo. This is so frustrating to not have been able to crack the full glory of this card I mean I'm only getting 6,200 in 3DMARK06. Can anyone tell me what to do with this please.

I would say its your overall system giving you that score, as for the card reading the same. What does AMDGPU tool say?

It say's the 2D clocks are 509C and 510 Mem and the same for 3D clocks whether I have a 3D app running or not it just seems to stay at 2D clock speeds.

Here's something to try. First, uninstall all tools that you might have related to GPU tweaking or what not. Second, uninstall the drivers, reboot into safe mode, and clean the system using Driver Cleaner. Reboot, and reinstall the drivers. Do some testing, BUT don't reinstall any tools. Use the CCC to see what your clock rate is set to. Leave out the tools for now until you've determined another cause for your speed decrease. If you do reinstall the tools be sure to first delete the main directories and if possible any registry listings before you do so just to be sure that there are no left over settings that might be screwing things up.
BTW, if you need to use a tweaking tool try ATI Tray Tools or RivaTuner instead as they have better, and more updated support for current cards. However, be sure to do testing of the card before you do so. Also, on a side note, you might want to try reinstalling your motherboards chipset driver as a precaution before you reinstall the video drivers. This is just to make sure that Windows is properly seeing the boards components, in particular the PCIE bus. |

Just to add a bit to what's already been said, download and run CCleaner to clean up all the crap on the system.

Well that is all good info but in regards to motherboard chipset driver's I have never had to install any chipset driver's with this board I have looked on asus website for them but none are listed it's the crossfire 3200 chipset and asus has told me there are no actual chipset drivers just the indvidual components. I also have done a clean install of my video drivers using driver cleaner in safe mode and such I am not new to this at all but for some reason it's saying that it's running slower than it should be I have never owned a card that has had seperate clocks before but to my knoledge it should switch to higher clocks while running a 3D app but it doesn't seem to change it just stays at 509C and 510 Mem. I am also using ATI Tool 0.27 because ATI Tray Tools does not support my card or I would much rather be using that I am not sure if Riva Tuner supports it I have never used that program before. I only use these programs mainly to control fan speeds because by default I think the card just overheats without the control of these programs I don't really care about overclocking I just want it to run at it's regular clocks.

Well AMD gpu tool should show you current clocks when you click the button. You would not be able to alt+tab from a game to see the current clocks as they are set to a ms response time that has already stopped the 3d clocks by the time you see desktop, run 3dmark 05 and tell me what you get.

Do you by chance have dual monitors? Or, at least a second monitor you can hook up temporarily? If so, connect a second monitor, fire up CCC and open the Overclocking section. Move that over to the second monitor and then fire up a game or other 3D app and see if the clocks change.

I will try both of these options I am downloading 3DMARK05 right now and I will hook up another monitor. Also I have been working with ATI Tech support they are going over my details for my system to determine what is causing the problem

Since you are using ATI Tool, can you save the bios, and post it somewhere for me? You can use a site like RapidShare, and post the download link in this thread. The reason I ask is that I want to see if something in your system is overriding the clocks, such as the drivers, but more so to see if the actual clock rate is set to that in your video cards bios outside of any reporting tool that might not be reading things properly.
