Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!
First of all, how long has it been since you cleaned out the interior dust from your case and the dust from all the fans....including the one on the video card? Is the fan on the video card working? |

You really should open up the case and clean it out. Could be a heat build up causing the problem.

Indeed, it is essential to regularly clean the insides of a PC to get rid of dust and other nasties, dust is not a good conductor of heat, so when it gets in heatsinks and fans etc, it causes a blanket effect, heating, rather than cooling the gfx card/cpu/chipset etc, the artifcating you saw was a symptom of your Radeon overheating, and if it was left that way for too long, it would have been permanently damaged.
Good call Dyre, and I hope you enjoy your card for a long time to come itsmeJT

Lines like that are usually indicative of overheating core, and if it goes to a more solid bars of colors and whatnot its usually RAM overheating on the card.
Glad you got your problem fixed

Dust accumulation is just one of the most overlooked maintenance issues for a lot of PC owners. It can be an expensive lesson to learn. However, try this first: With the case open, place a small desk fan pointing directly at the video card. See if that helps any. If it does, it could be that the fan itself on the video card has simply gone bad...with the dust causing the fan not to spin fast enough. You might get by just replacing the fan on the card. Fingers crossed for you here. |
