Problem installing Omega drivers with a x1650 (AGP), please help :(
Ok, so, I was a good girl and used the search function and read all the x1650-related posts and tried the suggestions there first, unfortunately, either windows or the drivers still can't recognize my card, even though its an official ATI product, not even a 3rd party card....help!
I wiped all drivers off of my pc with DriverCleaner, then installed the Cat 7.3 drivers, as Dyre Straits so helpfully suggested...unfortunately when I go to install the newest Omegas over the ATI install, I still get an INF error, and they don't properly seem to install...the program completes, but it still doesn't recognize my card when I boot up. I hope this makes sense, I'm beyond frustrated...I want to play the Witcher! >.< My poor, aging computer: OS Stuff Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz System Manufacturer: NVIDIA System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Memory: 1024MB RAM Video Card Card name: Radeon X1650 Series Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. Chip type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor AGP (0x71C1) DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz) Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71C1&SUBSYS_10021002&REV_9E Display Memory: 512.0 MB Driver Name: ati2dvag.dll Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6677 (English) DDI Version: 9 (or higher) Driver Attributes: Final Retail Sound Description: Realtek AC97 Audio Default Sound Capture: Yes Default Voice Capture: Yes Driver Name: ALCXWDM.SYS Driver Version: 5.10.0000.6250 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail Date and Size: 8/7/2007 18:33:12, 4108992 bytes Cap Flags: 0x41 I hope I included enough info about my pc...I'm scared of taking the cover off of it, and I'm away at school, so no helpful dads, brothers or (at the moment) tech-inclined bfs to help out! Thanks in advance for your help! |

I had that too. What I did to solve it was to install the previous version of omega.
What I did was: - uninstall everything by ati and all omega things. - install omega 3.8.413 at first, it seemed to go just as wrong as for the newest omega. But the following works only in 3.8.413, and not anymore in the newest: - go to control panel - if you're in classic view, double click 'system', if you're in category view, i don't know. - find device manager, it's a button in one of the tabs - here you see your devices, ordered in categories. You'll probably see a question mark category, with in it two unknown vga adapters. Otherwise, one or both of the adapters may be in the category graphics adapters, and have a yellow exclamation mark on them. Do this for both adapters: - right-click on it, and choose the option to update the drivers. - in the wizard that comes up, choose the 3rd, then 2nd then again 2nd option. If your device was in the questionmark category, you get an extra screen depicting hardware categories. Choose graphics adapters. - in the next screen, choose "have disk" - browse to the location of your omega install dir. Go to the subdir 2KXP_INF, and choose the only file you can choose, CX2K_RAD_OMEGA.inf. - You get a very long list with graphics cards by ati. Scroll to somewhere just over half of this list and choose 'Radeon x1650 Series (omega 3.8.413)', or 'Radeon x1650 Series Secondary (omega 3.8.413)', if you chose the one for the first, choose the other for the second. I don't know which adapter should be secondary and which not, but I do know this: if you were unlucky in choosing, you won't see a performance increase: dragging windows and watching this site will go very unsmoothly. If this is the case, do it again and choose it the other way around. Note that my windows is dutch and i don't know what the exact phrases are in the english version, so sometimes the phrases I use don't match completely (but mean the equivalent). |
