DirectX 3D not working with HD2600 Pro? Try this!

If you search the ATI site carefully, you'll find a hotfix for the HD2600 Pro card. I installed it and now my directX 3D games are working perfectly!

Are you sure that it is different then the agp hotfix? and if not to much trouble do you have a link?

Thanks for posting that link! I've been trying whatever I could to make that stupid 8.1 driver work properly on my computer and I was afraid that I would need to wait for the Vista Omega drivers, but this saved my day xD. I can now play Crysis on 1280x1024 without a flickering screen and without a massive drop in frame rates. Yay!
I have a Sapphire radeon HD 2600pro AGP, by the way. So even though it is not mentioned on that list in that link, it seems to work anyway.

You're welcome and your card is part of the Radeon™ HD2000 series so it is mentioned in that link.

ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon X800GT AGP, 256MB VRAM, running on Windows XP Pro (SP2)

The best driver is Catalyst 7.4, all others don't work that well or produce errors (3D not working, etc.)
Happy I found this thread, the first hint I get that those problems are because of drivers+AGP-card....
I didn't even try to use Catalyst 8.x.
Omega's are not QUITE the solution for me, although I love his work, but the integration of his drivers with the WDM's often results in slightly less smooth capture-results.
I got the card 1.5 years ago and at first thought I had got a bargain - realized too late, that all-in-wonder series was to be (now is) discontinued...

Hey guys, I recently made a post here regarding my issues with my AGP x1950 PRO. I went through a lot of trouble, but finally after purchasing DC.net (running it) and installing the 8.4 hotfix drivers my artifacting and choppy scrolling & fading problems went away.

The moral of the story is to run DC.net and install the hotfix drivers even if you think they won't affect you.

I'm here to report the 8.6 Catalyst drivers worked perfectly with my Sapphire HD3850 AGP card. I was expecting to have to use the 8.6 hot fix, but I ran tests with OpenGL and DirectX games and everything worked great for me. Ran the D3D draw tests and everything worked also. I'm quite pleased with the 8.6 Cat's.

Okay, now I come to you all with a question.
Will using the standard ATI Catalyst drivers cause damage to my HD 3850 AGP card?
Above I mentioned that my card ran great with the Cat 8.6 drivers, at least it did for a few days. Then I tried the Unreal Tournament 3 demo on my PC, which looked nice but I still did not care for it, doesn't have the feel like the original UT, at least it is closer then UT2004 though. But, I digress, after I ran the demo for about 20 minutes I shut the game off and uninstalled it. After the uninstall I rebooted my PC, but on the reboot I lost all video, couldn't even see the BIOS post. I removed the card and put in my backup, a PCI Mx400, which worked fine and got the video back up and working. So, I pulled that and put my AGP 6800GS in and that worked. Scratching my head I wondered, so I put the HD3850 back in and no video.

Could running a high stress game like UT3 without the AGP hotfix have damaged my video card, or could it have been just a fluke with the card? I RMA it and I got another one delivered today, so I am looking forward to seeing STALKER with the high dynamic lighting enabled once again.

Edit:
Card was delivered today, and I'm still using my 6800GS instead. Still no video with the 3850. I'm starting to believe what the guy said that sold me this A8V-X, that it does not work with ATI video cards.

Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

Sorry everyone, first thread regarding AGP cars, fogive awful spelling. Left out card details which are saffire Radeon 9550/1050 250mb. worked very well until recent "upgrades" (which knackered things up. Talking to AMD is like cotton wool. Did all they asked problems still there, ie get display all set up correctly , when shut down (or even restart) display reverts to basic mode 640x400 and 8bp. even downloaded latest drivers for chipset (sis 645dx) AGPgart.still problems. Has anyone any ideas? bristolian

Wink Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

Hi!

my card's ID is the following:

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596&SUBSYS_00281787&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596&SUBSYS_00281787
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596&CC_0300

It is a Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 AGP, and I just bought it last week. Thing is, I had a really though time getting it to work, but I could finally do it. It took me a lot of time to read through forums, and I got the general idea that many people had similiar problems with the 3k series. I would like to share the solution to my problem, and if it can help anyone in the future, then it'll be worth it.

Problem: First I want to make clear, that not the card was bad, there was nothing wrong with it. Its important cos I was about to return it back to the vendor, but that would have gotten me nowhere, cos the card is working just fine.
What I experienced was that is tha card had ANY kind of driver - I tried several: the one that came with the card, the ones that sapphire had on their page ("hotfixes"), or some older drivers like 7.7 - under windows xp sp2 or sp3 it would not work. When windows started I could see the desktop for about 5 secs but then a minute-long suffering started, when a pulsing black screen occasionally showed parts of the desktop, but I could do nothing, until it finally got me back to the desktop. But then, I could not use anything from my card's abilities, there was no hardware acceleration, dxdiag showed D3D and directdraw to be "not avaiable", and of course I could run no games, which required 3d. Sometimes the "VPU recover" told me that the driver could no longer communicate with the card so it was set back to default.
i read through many forums, and it was clear that many people had the same or close to the same problem. But i could not find any solution that would have helped me (my psu could easily handle the card; there was a virgin new windows running my system; there was no driver, no matter hotfix or not, that could help).

Solution: Then I found a forum where someone had exactly the same troubles as me. He also had a P4C800 deluxe motherboard, like me, and he finally told me what to do: i needed to go into BIOS, and find the "graphics aperture size" option, inside the chipset options, under the AGP things. This aperture size - as far as I can understand - is the setting that shows how much system memory will be given for the AGP port. it was set to 64MB, and I needed to set it up to 256MB. Easy as that.
Now the windows loads in just fine, everything can be used with the videocard, and it is doing a great job - for example, it can run Bioshock in DX9 in 1024 with all specs set to high!

So before giving up and trying to get rid of this card, give it a chance and try this solution if you are experiencing the same as I did - If it could help ya, then you're welcome!
Cheers,
d

Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

Ok, this is what I have ( and I should warn: I'm a real novice, so be kind)
AMD Athlon 64, 3200+....2.0 GHZ.....2.0 gigs....1.5 gig ram.......400 watt power

The vid card is a Visiontek ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro, AGP

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_94C4&SUBSYS_00281545&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_94C4&SUBSYS_00281545
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_94C4&CC-030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_94C4&CC-0300

I'm using the driver that came on the disc.

Here's the deal.......I've been playing "The Sims" on my old card, an ATO 1300HD. I bought COD4 and realized that I'd need some upgrades. I had a computer store install a 400 watt power unit and an additional 1.0 gig of ram. When I loaded the new card, everything seemed to load fine.

When I load either game, I get the main menu and when I select "Play", the screen either freezes or goes black an freezes.

I tried to download a latest driver but it tells me it's not compatible.
I've checked directX 9.0 and it works fine
I've checked the Device Mgr and it's showing the 2400 Pro

What's next?

Any help given will be greatly appreciated.

Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

I have a different kind of problem. Bought an Asus HD 3650 512MB AGP card. Installed it yesterday and started up the PC. Installed new ATI drivers and rebooted. Everything seemed to be fine except the Aero interface wasn't working. I opened Device Manager and it showed me that the PC is running on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, not on 3650. The new 3650 is not even detected in any ways. I do not have any embedded graphics solutions, I just removed my old AGP card and installed the new one and it's not working. My PSU is powerful enough to handle it, I have Abit AV8 motherboard with VIA chipset and CPU is Athlon64 3000+. I have googled a lot and never found a similar situation like mine. I was thinking of reformatting and reinstalling Vista(i use x64 SP1 Ultimate) but thought I'd try my luck here aswell.

Maybe the card is faulty? I had to rape it a bit to fit it inside my case, maybe I broke something even though everything seems to be fine?

Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

Did you install the hotfix or the regular drivers? Radeon cards from the HD 2000 and 3000 series aren't supported by official drivers (because ATI never intended them to be released), but every month ATI issues an AGP hotfix driver. The latest one at the moment seems to be 9.4 and it can be found here. Good luck.

You, sir, are a genius. Thanks for pointing out the link I already had visited yesterday but yesterday I somehow failed to download proper drivers because I got error message when trying to download from there. I tried different hotfix drivers but never got them working. Now I was able to download these same 9.4 drivers and got them working. So, if given a chance, I'd kiss your mom, dog and sister( definitely your sister ). Thanks again.

I'm glad I was able to help.

P.S. My sister said that you'd need some flowers and that you two would have to hold hands together first.

Ok, flowers are easy. I'll just stop by a cemetery but I really don't do holding hands...

I always install the latest AGP Hotfix from ATI/AMD website so that my video card has the latest driver. I'm currently running the 9.10 AGP Hotfix however, I notice that the 9.11 Hotfix is out. But when I install the 9.11 Hotfix, it does nothing for my video card, basically my video card does not recognize that 9.11 is installed.
I'm not a noob, I've been updating my video card without any problems the same way everytime a new hotfix comes out. But for some reason the 9.11 Hotfix does not want to work on my computer..
Why is that????

Thanks.

Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

I have artifacts appearing. It is fine on 2D applications but when I play games or use 3DMark06 I can see them. I used the disk that came with with card which is Catalyst 8.452.0.0. The reason I used that is that I am unfamiliar with ATI and this is my first ATI card. I tried Catalyst 9.11 But my UPS said hibernation is not available and also it didn't act like it installed the driver. It would only use default resolutions and I couldn't set it up to 1860 X 1050. With the disk that came with the box I can.

ASUS AH2600PRO 512MB AGP X8

XP service pack 3

AMD Athlon 3000+ which supports X8 AGP with 2.5GB memory

I have used most of Asus, ATI and Omega Radeon drivers without success. No issues playing dvd's music or anything else except when it comes to playing games. Crysis runs at about a frame a sec. Halo crashes frequently. Earth 2160, Darkstar One and HAlo 2 crash during intro vid. I have checked and all should play on system. I only really want to use this machine to play the older games at a decent spec. I used to use an ATI Radeon All In Wonder card that was very slow and the reason I used the 2600. I cannot find an upgrade for motherboard Bios as it is not supported oem board although Sisoft Sandra informs that my board supports high end cpu's. I have searched for days now and although there are many frustrated 2660 board owners there does not seem to be a definite solution( sorry if i missed someone's hard work in providing solution). I only have a 250 Watt power supply. Could this be a problem? Any ideas before I ceremoniously burn this machine and buy a SP3 to play games.

Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

I'd say that the PSU is to weak, especially if it has a few years service behind it. Though, it's difficult to say for sure without knowing all about the system. Generally speaking, oem systems have weaker psu's.

Is there anyway you can borrow a better PSU to try with, just to rule out if it's the cause or not?

Re: ATI AGP Video Card Problems?

I have to concur that that 250 W PSU just doesn't cut it. I'd suggest at least a 450 - 500 W and make sure there's at least 20A rating on the +12V rail/s.
