ATI X850XT question

I have a ATI X850XT video card and I am trying to get HD-DVD's to play off my computer, but am having a little bit of a problem...

I am using the Xbox HD-DVD
X850XT video card
Power DVD HD version 7.1

The problem is that Power DVD says my video card is not able to play back the video...

I know it's not the best video card around, but I really hope someone knows of a way to fix this or knows of another problem that will make it play fine. I really don't want to upgrade my video card.

Maybe I am missing a encoder or something?

A while back I did get power dvd to play it back but there was just audio and no video. The video was all boxey and could not see anything...

Any ideas would be great!

unfortunately from what I know the X850XT will not play HD DVD or Bluray. Why? It doesn't have the .h264 decoding hardware which the next generation such as the x1800 has. You will probably need to do a budget upgrade to a 8600GT or something like that.

What would be the cheapest ATI card I could get that is equal to my 850xt or better that would play HD movies?

2600XT would be my choice right off my head, anything with HDCP, like the X1950PRO

Well I see the 2600XT is around $120 or so and if thats HDCP then I am all for it!!!

Well I did have a good gaming machine about 3 years ago where i would have bought the top end card but now I can't afford my PC and switched to the 360!

I have a 3500 AMD single core

1 core is way way better than 4 lol

EDIT I see you have 2 quad so you have 8 cores lol....

I don't get it exactly... but its not real I'm assuming. If it is, thats completely unnecessary unless you are the god of some game lol

I'm surrounded here at my place by consoles but still stick with my PC.

As I have both an X1950 Pro PCIe and a HD2600XT to play with, I can tell you from experience if you want power and grunt, the X1950 Pro is the version to go with. This is especially so if you're using XP. But, it's still true with Vista. Several publications, both paper and online, have rated the X1950 Pro as the best mid-range video card, bar none.

And, as DX10 really isn't mature yet, you only need a DX9 card to truly enjoy the games.

oh look it's pci-express, wow people still use x8x0 on non agp? i mean i like my x800 a lot, but you'd expect people who can easily upgrade to do it hah

so no way to cpu only hddvds?

my rig will be merely half of this if not less.....

single 3870 to start, probably only 2GB of DDR3 at first, then 4GB

with one of the budget Dual Core E2140s to hold me until a 45nm Quad

all on the Maximus Extreme or Rampage Extreme
