Sad powercolor x1650 512mb agp

hi there guys,
first of all, im not so good at engslish, but i hope ill understand me.

bought a powercolor x1650 512mb agp today. but i cant get it working.

first time i put it in the computer there was no problem. istalled the drivers from the cd that came with it, and restarted.

then windows didnt start. after the welcome screen it just turned black.

i restarted in safe mode, unistalled drivers from divice maneger. then i downloaded the latest catalyst from ati hompage, when i was about to install thoose i got the massage: "this drivers are to old compare to ur windows version".

so i installed the latest omega drivers insted and when windows loaded i got "windows host process (rundll32) has stopped working). so, back to safemode and remove omega.

restarted in normal mode and tried to install drivers from cd again, now the screen just turn black after a couple of mins and i must close the computer with button.

i just cant think of anyting else to try, so please if someone had the same problems please tell me.

system:
vista 32 (latest updates installed)
amd 3400+
1gb ram

thx,
erik from swe

before you installed the card, did you remove ALL of the old drivers from your system? this is very important. especially if you were using integrated graphics or an old graphics card.

now my next question, what was your previous video device?

and you uninstalled all the geforce drivers correct? this is usually the kind of problem that happens when the drivers arent COMPLETELY removed from the system.

if this was done directly from the 1600PRO then it would have been much more painless

since you cleaned it out, all i can say is to try again and install the 7.12 official drivers for vista and see if it still happens...

if it still goes on, all i can think of is use something like drivercleaner and remove all parts belonging to your video card drivers.

no wonder, did the old nvidia drivers install without any issues? you may need to download the nvidia drivers from the site and command the installer to remove them.

thats the best route i can think of

if you can, i suggest just reformatting and reinstalling the OS

a pretty big hassle but its better than an unstable computer.

thats true. but i rather send this lowprice-shitcard back to the store and buy a new computer. dont got time for problems when i need the computer for homework.

so tired of powercolor. owned like 3-4 cards the last 5 years. not a single one has worked without any problems....

i think i came up with something here. i manage to install drivers (after running DH driver cleaning). but after i restart and windows is loading i get an error from my screen: "out of range".

could this mean that the resulation that windows wanna go with doesnt work with my screen? or any idéas? the wierd thing is that the loading screen is really really big so it seams that the res is like 800*600 or something... and that souldnt be any problem with my 24" samsung tft...

that usually happens if you adjust the refresh rate too high

so you tried manually setting it at 1920x1200? and you got an out o0f range error?

if so then there should be settings for that in the catalyst control panel

Hi. If you boot your PC holding F8, you should be brought to the Windows boot menu. If you select "Boot using VGA" or something like that, change your resolution and refresh rate in Windows and restart, it might sort this issue.

I had a similar issue when first trying to use my HD TV. Hope this helps...
