Some of you may find the below interesting, and DH may even want to investigate.
Alex 'Morgoth Bauglir' Voicu at Rage3d is showing real benefits in "Assassin's Creed" on Vista after the SP1 patch is applied that enables DX10.1 with ATi hardware when using AA- Article- Rage3D.com : Assassin's Creed - First DX10.1 Title? [ Assassin's Creed - First DX10.1 Title? ] The card tested was the HD 3870 X2. He plans to retest using a single card as well.

that is indeed worth a look....
however i dont' think the game requires to be dx10.1 compliant.. just the video card.... as the difference is minimal... it probably just runs through the dx10.1 api instead of runnning dx10 specifically.

...lemme interfere on this thread... iw noticed that frame rate is as much as 20% or more better when i play on Vista than on XP. y? i cant tell. neither is this like 100% for sure, cause its pure "subjective" feeling - based on few save games loaded in Vista and in XP, and with often "lookin" on FRAPS fps. definitely smoother !

I haven't tested myself but going by several other testers it seems this is one of those games that simply performs noticeably better on XP.
I haven't read up on the DX10.1 discussion but when I run this game in DX10-whatever mode there's no anisotropic filtering which is unaccebtable. Perhaps the patch has a lot of little things to improve. |
