ATI 2400 AGP Issue

My mom bought me an ATI 2400 HD(AGP VERSION) on Christmas.
I replaced my old 9200 with this card and installed the drivers.
Everything seemed to be working fine until I ran a 3d program.
After 10 seconds of running the program,the screen would freeze,blank off, and then turn black.The keyboard froze up so I wasnt able to really do anything,but the sound still continued playing in the background.
So,I uninstalled the drivers and downloaded the latest drivers from the site and tried installing those,but for some reason it didn't recognize the card.
So then I downloaded an earlier version of those drivers and managed to get through installing.Still didnt work,can someone please help me,my card is pretty much outdated and I'd have to hate to go back and buy another.

P.S. Some people tell me that it may be that my card doesnt get enough voltage power or overheats...might that be a

What PSU you got there, I need model and manufacturer.
Do you have the motherboard chipset drivers installed????

And a bit off-topic your CPU is bottlenecking your GFX card...

The culprit is your motherboard. It has VIA's chipset and they don't work well with newer ATI AGP cards. All what you can do is to get the newest drivers for the chipset and hope it fixes the issues.

There is a known problem with Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Windows XP systems using AMD K7 and K8 CPUs that results in the Microsoft operating system allocating overlapping 4M cached pages with 4k write‐combined pages. This condition results in undefined behavior and data corruption, and is explicitly disallowed by the AMD CPU manual. This problem can affect any device driver in the system that allocates writecombined system memory, but is usually most easily reproduced with graphics drivers since graphics drivers generally make heavy use of write‐combined system memory for performance reasons.

• Resolution
Microsoft has a knowledge base article on the issue, the text of which is
unfortunately quite outdated. While the article only mentions Windows 2000, AGP, and K7, both the root cause and resolution also apply to Windows 2000 or Windows XP, AGP or PCI‐E, and AMD K7 or K8. The article can be found at http://

The issue is resolved by applying an operating system registry key as described in the referenced article that instructs the Microsoft operating system to not use the 4M pages, thus avoiding the conflict.

source: release notes forceware (all versions): (mentioned problem is not a nVidia specific issue).

Also try the following:
- disable agp fast write;
