HD3870 Crossfire RAM question

If was was to add another HD3870 to my setup, would games, speciffically textures see 1 GB of Video memory available and use it accordingly?

Or would I still be at 512MB video memory?

Or is software dependent? (some games see and use 512MB, some see and use 1024MB)

I think that the ATI driver will be smart enough to utilize the 2nd card so that the performance will be good, balanced utilization of the video mem if CF is supported.

When a 2nd card is introduced in either a sli or crossfire configuration (and the features is turned on) the memory is not combined...

Because every texture and every bit of data that one card needs, the other needs as well (exactly)

Until they come up with a new method of properly deviding everything at a higher lvl, we will never see the combined value.

512mb on a single card in the crossfire = only 512mb will be used even if 2 or more cards are present.
