I normally disable fast writes in the SMARTGART tab of the Catalyst driver properties.
Whether you can disable it in BIOS or not depends on if your particular BIOS/Motherboard supports that option. As far as I know, disabling it in windows should be good enough. |

To do it in Windows:
1. Right click anywhere on your desktop>click on properties 2. Under settings tab click on advanced 3. Click on smartgart>there should be a box to uncheck fast writes 4. Click on apply

but in your case, i think your hardware shouldnt be a problem, maybe it is because of the internet line speed that you 're using, but that's just my oppinion though...

Restart your computer when you see the boot up screen (the first screen that should have your bios date and number)hit delete or F9 I am not sure about your particular one. In there you will see your bios options go thru them and somewhere in the options you should see a option to turn off Fastwrites. You may have to hit a different key to get into your BIOS. Hope this helps a bit.
Also Welcome to DriverHeaven Blower!

Blower, I have an Intel mb D845pece and it does not support in my utility bios the option of disabling fastwrites. Shutdown your pc, and during startup when the screen is still black, just hold down on the F1 key, and the systems bios utility format should come up. I run xp also, and I simply disable fastwrites in the smartgart tab as was previously suggested to you. By the way, why are you wanting to diasable fastwrites. If its for benching purposes, I personally have not seen much difference either way, but that`s on my rig, some folks maybe have seen an increase.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=779950 P.S. I also have not seen any real benefit in FPS gain while in-game, or on-line gaming. But you can download the utility program called FRAPS, and monitor your FPS continously in the upper left hand corner of your screen while gaming and see for yourself, whether disabling fastwrites helps you or not. You can download the fraps utility here: http://www.fraps.com/ And also welcome to DriverHeaven, where you will find some of the finest folks out there willing to lend a helpful hand in solving problems WE all encounter! Also the maturity factor among the regulars that post in the many forums that DriverHeaven offers, is the one best reason for visiting this site. You may find a little B.S. ing from time to time, but thankfully, sarcasm and cursing takes a backseat here, compared to some of the other sites you may visit!
