Hd 3850 512mb agp

Hey guys. I am new to this forum and you guys seem like you know what you are talking about. I just purchaced a HD 3850 512MB AGP from newegg. I am replacing a 9600XT and that card worked ok, but it did crash from time to time as well.

The only game I play is world of warcraft and this is the only place where I am having issues with both cards...but was having less of a problem with the 9600XT.

It doesnt matter if I run the new card at full settings or lowest settings, about 4 min into the game now, the VPU Recovery will come up. It will keep doing it until finally the screen turns black. When I try to restart the game, WoW gives me an error saying that it cant find a suitable video device.

Now, I have uninstalled the drivers. Booted in safe mode, Driver Cleaner Pro'ed the rest of the drivers and installed the latest driver and the latest Hotfix drivers. I have ran Driver Agent and it seems the rest of my drivers are ok, but my BIOS hasnt been updated since 2005.

My questions to you guys is. Could my BIOS be causing this. Because its happened with my 9600XT and now with this card. Or, if not, what could the other issues be.

System Specs.
550W CoolerMaster
2g DDR3400
AMD 3200+
XP Home SP2
Sapphire HD 3850 512MB AGP.

Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks again guys.

Did the 9600xt work fine for a good length of time and then start producing these results..

or has it been that way from day one?

Using a VPU recovery is due to the video card no responding, or driver not responding or the agp port drivers failing to do thier job properly.

A bios update could potentially solve a number of issues related to your video card, but you'd have to check that.

Sometimes VPU recovery is related to insufficient power supply.

I'd suggest also downloading the latest AGP "guart" drivers for your motherboard.... you'll have to find out what type of motherboard you have and what chipset it has on it.
