Sounds like a GPU core crash, so your graphics card might be unstable. It could potentially be a faulty card, or overheating power regulators. It could also be a waning power supply giving the card unstable power.

Re: [Help] 1950 sapphire pro freeze
I once had something similar happen to my X1600 Pro And it was my power supply that was at fault so i would start there check the power requirements of the card and if the power supply is delivering the required power to the card! then once you have ruled out the power supply as the cause then move on to the other things that could be causing it like the card itself or the Motherboard, check out the power supply first thats all am saying and good luck i know how frustrating it can be when a rig freezes.

Re: [Help] 1950 sapphire pro freeze
This is your motherboard, correct?
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. If so, there is a long history of problems between the VIA chipset and ATI AGP video cards. The problem is legendary. It's not the fault of the PSU but, rather, the fault of the VIA chipset. As much as I hate to keep saying it, there's a definite compatibility problem between ATI video cards and the VIA chipset. AND, to be blunt, the main problem lies with VIA's AGP motherboard driver. There have been innumerable posts over the years about this issue. Many people have found success by doing one or the other...or a combination of either...of the following: 1. Turn off Fastwrites in the BIOS settings; 2. Lower AGP from 8x to 4x; 3. Use the Microsoft AGP drivers rather than the VIA AGP drivers; 4. Boost voltage to the AGP bus by one notch in the BIOS; 5. Lower Hardware Acceleration by one notch. [COLOR=#800080][/COLOR] EDIT: Forum Topic No Longer Exists on VIA Arena Forum My own personal solution -- after too many problems with VIA chipset motherboards: Don't buy anymore motherboards using VIA chipsets. ![]() Finally, check out this response from another user here..... http://www.hardwareheaven.com/windows-...ml#post1107583

Re: [Help] 1950 sapphire pro freeze
I had the same problem happen playing 'FEAR'.And it was due to overheating and, open your computer case, lower your resolution.
This happens during intense game play......... |

Re: [Help] 1950 sapphire pro freeze
Thanks
Now after reading all this i have been trying a few things... It's pretty weird... the problem started after a long time of using the videocard... It may be a compatibility problem but also i have been thinking about the power source i mean my power source is Topower model TOP-420P4 ATX12V Power Supplies It seems it's not enough this one im thinking of buying this one: (remember i dont have much money to spend in it) Cooler Master - Ultimate provider of Computer Chassis | Cooler | Power Supply IF you dont think its enough i can get one a little better Also it doesnt seem a temperature problem... i cleaned and opened the PC to let it refresh... Now im trying all the compatibility stuff... But please i would like a little more help about that what exactly i have to do? how i do that? and so... thanks

Re: [Help] 1950 sapphire pro freeze
I really think it's more of a problem with the VIA chipset itself and its tendency to cause problems with AGP video cards. This DOES affect both ATI and nVidia, but it seems that ATI gets the worst of it.
Have you tried any of the suggestions in my previous post? Or, is that what you're asking about when you refer to 'compatibility stuff'? AND, just to assure you that I'm not talking through my hat, the most recent issue of PC Format Magazine that I have makes mention of this very issue between VIA and AGP. It really is a very well-known problem and a humdinger to work it out when it's persistent. |

what is your advice? I tryied a few things about compatibility (i cant find the driver you said) and they didnt worked This power source seems to be not good enough and getting worse with the time still im not complety sure if this will work can you read the desc of both power source i listed up there and say if its worth changing it? Changing the motherboard? if that so wich brand should i get or what should i pay attention to? or maybe the video card got damaged? maybe if you dont mind giving a "adress" for any chat program so it be easier for you to help me ^^ Last edited by Kabi; Oct 29, 2008 at 09:57 PM. |
