HIS card help

Hey guys....new here. I just bought an HIS Radeon HD 3650 AGP card for my Asus md and installed yesterday. Well....everyone on newegg is complaining that AGP cards no matter what brand are having driver issues but all seemed to resolve so I took a chance. And sure enough....so did I.

The driver cd wouldnt even start. So....on HIS.com I downloaded the driver package which I assume includes everything on the cd and the install went fine.

HOWEVER....when first starting the pc...that little icon in my taskbar for new hardware pops up and stays up. It says my new hardware is unknown and might not be working properly. This is my issue. I opened up my device manager and I have a PCI device that has a yellow question mark next to it and no known info for it. No driver details.....nothing.

BUT....I do have ATI 3650 under display adapters above and that seems to be working fine.

My question is....how do I know if everything is working fine or not? The chip in the card is working....but does that mean that all the other things like AVIVO or Direct x and stuff isnt???

Sorry if my first post sounds kinda out there. I can disable that pci device under my device manager, but then what?

I also downloaded and installed the drivers for this chip from ATI's website and still. It's weird....it wont recognize the card but the video chip it recognizes?

Help/Advice/Tips.....thanks for all the help and great forum!!!

System Specs

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

Things like AVIVO are used on DVD or HD-Video play back so if you can play for example DVD with hardware acceleration enabled the AVIVO is working. As for DirectX all you can do is to run the DirectX Diagnostic to find out does it work. You can run it by clicking Stat menu and there select run then type dxdiag and goto the Display tab to thee if the DirectX features are enabled.

ok great...i ran the dxdiag and the 3 features are enabled. However under the system tab it says I have directx version 9.0c and this card is supposed to have 10.0. How would I update this?

and is there any purpose of having the drivers for the card installed or is just the ATI driver good enough??

again sorry if my post doesnt make 100% sense but....this stuff is very new to me.

Are you running Windows XP? In that case all you get is DX9. No DX10 for XP.

And that unknown hardware is probably the built-in sound on the card. Drivers for that isn't included in the catalyst set so you have to download that from ATI or browse the CD you got.
