HD 2600 in a laptop (shared memory question)

well OK this is very basic question... I'm trying to use this laptop for gaming. specs are
2.0 2 core duo
4 gig ram
radeon hd 2600 512 dedicated
vista 64
for full specs this is a gateway m-6862

when i check my settings on the cards it sais i have like 2gigs of shared video memory so I'm assuming its my 512 dedicated, plus another 1.5 gigs from my ram that's being allocated to my card?

question is this, when I'm gaming I'm sure programs don't recognize this so they overload the vid card and start using ram sharing the video memory making a decrease in performance, i feel it might run better if just the video ram was used? thoughts input?

is there a way to disable this shared memory? I cannot do this in my BIOS,

They will recognise the extra memory the card has, but you are quite right in that it is completely pointless, 512MB is ample for a card like the 2600.

I would have thought an option in Catalyst would disable that.
