will getting an hd3850 bottleneck my system?
Hi, in the near future I am planning on getting an AGP ati 3850 from either his or sapphire. I have an old rig (AMD socket A) and was wondering if this would bottleneck my system. if so, by how much %. if i do get this card, how much of difference would it make??
also, i would like to know how much power this card would consume, like if i should get a new power supply or not.. currently my 12v is just about fully loaded, if i were to add another hard drive, my computer probably be completely unstable. Specs: DFI Lanparty NFII (rev. a) AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Barton --- overclocked to 2.45 GHz OCZ 2gb ram (2x 1gb sticks) --- overclocked to 444 MHz Corsair VX550, 550w Currently own: sapphire x1650 pro AGP thanks in advance

I can guarantee that you won't see much improvement, if any at all. That CPU is bottlenecking your 1650 so you can imagine that it will do so with the 3850 as well.
I went from an nvidia 4200Ti to an X850XT with my old Barton 3200+ and didn't see much change. The wonders came when I got a Windsor 5200+ and the X850 really got to show what it could do. In my opinion it's a waste of money for you to do that upgrade. Save up so you can get a completely new system instead. |

btw.... a decent good quality 500 watt psu is recommended if your running a hd3850 agp.
and i also agree.. your better off with your x1650.... start saving your cash for a new complete build
