Sad Directx error ati x1650 pro AGP

Hi all!

I bought this card: ati radeon x1650 512 mb ddr2 AGP to upgrade my hardware, without spending too much, even forced, as my beloved ati radeon 9600 has taken its deserved rest after 5 years of service honored! We come to this: I installed my new card, and I installed firts the last driver 8.11, and then, after uninstalling the driver with driversweeper, I installed the last Omegadriver. Of course, before all this, the hdd was formatted as just bought! At this point I install my dear Call of Duty 4, I put the optimal settings recommended by the multiplayer and just from the bar to load the server, me "directx error." Uninstall all game and driver and reinstall only the hotfix .. then reinstall the call of duty 4 and, although I had already installed, reinstall the directx 9, but still gives me the same problem. Practically I can't do a screen because when I have the error (when they are loading the map of any server) my desk freezes .. pressing the button with the symbol of windows can see the bar next to CoD4 there is another window says "DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error". If I can, I close this window by key dx and then close, or have to reboot the pc .. I also installed the latest driver for my motherboard!

HARDWARE

* Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz

* MB: asus p4v800-x

* RAM: 2 Gb ddr 400 Mhz

* ati radeon x1650 512 mb ddr2 AG

* HDD: 1 barracuda seagate 320 gb sata

* Power Supply: 400W ATX 12V

* Dissipation with their fan

* Windows sp3

I have patched Call of Duty 4 at last version 1.7.568 and also I have uptated Directx at last version (november 2008) and I don't have xfire!

I hope to be able to find a solution soon .. thank everyone in advance for answers, especially those that help me solve the problem..and sorry for my english

Re: Directx error ati x1650 pro AGP

well, i've got the same gfx card, and though i don't have CoD4, i do have the demo, and at first, it didn't run at all, and it was because i didn't install the DX9 version that came with the setup... so i reinstalled the demo along with that DX9 and voila! got some "Modern Warfare" action

what drivers are you using? because it seems that CATs 7.12 or below are our best options for our cards, so i'll recommend you to install the latest Omega Drivers, they're just great (they're based on the CAT 7.12)

good luck with your card

First of all, welcome to DriverHeaven!

Secondly, there is nothing at all wrong with your English. I had no problem understanding anything you wrote. Good job!

Now, as for the problem you're having:

The motherboard you're using has a VIA chipset. This particular chipset has had a bad history of problems with ATI AGP video cards. Although you apparently had good service with the previous 9600, the newer card is so different that it likely is causing the VIA chipset to choke.

Try this:

1. In BIOS, reset the AGP factor to 4X. Do not let it set this automatically.

2. Uninstall the VIA AGP BUS drivers. Instead of using the VIA AGP BUS drivers, use the Microsoft AGP BUS drivers. Google is your friend!

If these do not help with the problem, you can try some of the HOTFIX AGP drivers recently made available by ATI/AMD specifically for AGP video cards.

Good luck!

If you change Enable to Disable in the V-Link 8X Supported, that 'should' drop the card to 4X. So, be sure to try that.

As much as I hate to keep saying it, there's a definite compatibility problem between ATI video cards and the VIA chipset. AND, to be blunt, the main problem lies with VIA's AGP motherboard driver. There have been innumerable posts over the years about this issue.

Many people have found success by doing one or the other...or a combination of either...of the following:

1. Turn off Fastwrites in the BIOS settings;
2. Lower AGP from 8x to 4x;
3. Use the Microsoft AGP drivers rather than the VIA AGP drivers;
4. Boost voltage to the AGP bus by one notch in the BIOS;
5. Lower Hardware Acceleration by one notch.

I do hope you can get things working without too much more trouble.

Good luck!

I solved my problem. I will tell everything I did, hoping it may be useful to everybody. I uninstalled omega driver, clean with driver sweeper and I installed Hotfix 8.10. After, in the CCC, in the windows SmartGart, I have changed AGP's speed from 8x to 4x, reboot and I have finally been able to play. Thx all, especially Dyre Straits, for the aid!

Re: Directx error ati x1650 pro AGP

I have the same issue as nightrain83 however when I try his solution it does not work for me. I am in the same situation...I recently upgraded from my radeon 9600 to my x1650 pro and i used to play cod4 fine on my old graphics card but know it comes up with the problem that nightrain encountered. When i put my old card in again it works fine... My pc specs are - Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz - MB Gigabyte 8S649FX-775 - RAM 1 Gb ddr 400 Mhz - GFX card ati radeon x1650 512 mb ddr2 AGP - HDD seagate 200gb - Power Supply generic 550W - Windows sp2 I have looked for a solution but cannot seem to find one that works...I am hoping that you guys can help me. CoD4 is patched to latest...I have tried uninstalling xfire...no difference. I have currently the 8.10 AGP Hotfix but have tried many others.
