HD4830 vs 8800GTS 512

I was wondering which of these would perform better in video games overall.

I've seen a few sites with limited information but nothing comparing these two directly.

I play on 1920x1200 so I am really unsure of these two which would perform better.

8800GTS 512 MB vs. 9800GT - Bjorn3d.com Forums brought to you by XFX

So this is what I have gather thus far.

9800 GT = 8800 GT
8800 GTS 512 > 9800 GT
9800 GT > HD4830

So 8800 GTS 512 > HD4830

can anyone find proof of otherwise?

Also the 8800GTS 512 is more expensive to buy now. That may be because its harder to find though

Re: HD4830 vs 8800GTS 512

Yes, the 8800GTS 512mb performs better than the HD4830.....Actually the HD4830 performs on pair with the 8800GT/9800GT, and the 8800GTS 512mb is better than the 8800GT/9800GT, just like you said. Here are some other reviews:

HEXUS.net - Review :: AMD (ATI) Radeon HD 4830 512MB: redefining mid-range graphics : Page - 5/10
AnandTech: AMD Radeon HD 4830: Affordable Performance And Heavy Competition
Radeon HD 4830 review HIS technology

I'm not sure if the reviews are using the HD4830 with 640SP, because some of them came with bad bios, with less SPs, but it can be easily fixed by flashing it's bios

Re: HD4830 vs 8800GTS 512

Considering that the HD4830 complies with dx10.1 and likely dx11 fully. where as the 8800 does not.

Now as i said, in some instances the 4830 would likely be able to pass the 8800 up. But from what i could gather they are essentially the same with one winning out over the other and vice versa. And that's mostly 99% during DX9c related gaming or performance results. In the coming months we are going to be seeing a plethora of dx10.1 based games showing up in mass.... And i wouldn't doubt that the hd4830 would likely easily win out consistantly in those circumstances.

Re: HD4830 vs 8800GTS 512

The 8800GTS is essentially a lower clocked 9800GTX, which is a 4850 rival. The 4830, like many have already said, is a 9800GT/8800GT rival.

Yes, the 4830 does have some newer technologies, but the 8800GTS has Nvidia's latest stuff.

In the end, presuming price is equal, you have to decide whether you prefer the Nv tech advantages and performance increase of the 8800GTS or the ATI tech advantages of the 4830.

Well dx11 will have some new features that are non embedded in dx10.1, so you will not get fully dx11. The full support will come by the last quarter of this year.
I haven't heard any games to come in dx10.1 . I would like to hope that some developers will think about 10.1 twice The reason is underneath the following quote

I have also won a HD4830 (Thank's again DH for making happier my year ) and was searching for some more reference about the capabilities of this card
In my case i will upgrade from an old x1800gto, so i will see differences, especially in Age Of Conan

Now i have to earn money for a bigger monitor (19" the old one). 22" or 24" (tn panel) is better for HD4830?

I know, but in all the games I tested it didn't really make a difference. + the AMD card overclocks better and out performs the GTS when overclocked.

The only other + for my GTS is the Nvidia Physx
