Re: 4870x2 Question
also, if you are willing to swing to the other side, nvidia's GTX 295 performs significantly better than the 4870X2 in all categories for a similar price.
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modules/...p?reviewid=711 but thats up to you ![]() anyways... back to your question, generally people prefer Sapphire cards as they are the best in terms of quality consistency and have generally good service. Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100251SR Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards however, since XFX began offering ATi cards, they may be the new kings of the hill in service. but newegg doesnt stock their 4870X2 though. Graphic Cards - Radeon HD 4000 - Radeon? HD 4870 X2 but if you feel like going with the GTX 295 though, i recommend EVGA as their warranty policy is the best. but i cant find it on newegg for some odd reasons. Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFGEGTX2951792E GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 (448 x 2)-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards the links though are only for those who live in the US

Re: 4870x2 Question
then id go with sapphire as theyve been the best ATi company to deal with
but still, unless you need ATi for a specific reason, i still highly recommend the GTX295

Re: 4870x2 Question
Yes, Sapphire make great cards, just make sure that you set the fan to manual to 50 or 60 percent when you game cause the auto fan on all? ATI cards sucks big time.

Re: 4870x2 Question
i'd not touch the 295 since it's not 1gb usable vram, would be an issue in gta4 & anything at super rez & super AA
i'm enjoying my x2, & gtx285 might be alright |

Re: 4870x2 Question
Agreed, at 2560x1600, the GTX295 falls flat, and ultimately, that's the only scenario where you really need cards like these. Benchmark figures aside, you would be surprised how playable the vast majority of games out there are with a 1GB HD4870.
The only situation the GTX285 sits on top of the 4870X2 is Crysis Warhead, and even then not by much, in everything else the 4870X2 is clearly superior for the same price. I think nVidia have priced themselves out of this market really. People have commented about getting crashes with Sapphire cards, but owning a Sapphire X2 myself I haven't seen it with one X2, now CrossfireX, that's another story.
