Hyper memory on/off?

My laptop, a Fujitsu Siemens 3530 has a 512 MB HD3650 in it as well as the HD3200 built into chipset.

I don't see the need to use hyper memory when the 3650 is active, 512 MB is enough for most games so I would like to turn that off, just don't know how to do that. I can't find any setting for this anywhere.

Respectively I guess I need to have it turned on for the HD3200 that comes in to play when I run on battery since it has no dedicated memory.

Is it at all possible to have it set up like this. No hyper memory for the 3650 but active for the 3200? And honestly, when I check the data in CCC it says that the 3200 has 1100 MB, that's way more than necessary.

Re: Hyper memory on/off?

as far as i know when it comes to it all..... you'd have to manually change it each time.

What you can do is see in the bios if you can adjust the "size" of the hyper memory for the onboard adapter, make it as small as possible.. .and then just leave it on.. (if it gives you this option)

but i think your not going to have that option

exclamation Re: Hyper memory on/off?

unfortunately it is almost impossible to change the hypermemory settings, unless one has the options available in the bios. i remember my old notebook with intel 855 onboard gfx with 32-64mb shared memory - there was an option in the driver sesstings called "driver memory footprint" - but that was intel gfx, not ati, and i only could choose low-mid-high.

but

makes me curious!

i have a mobility hd2600 256mb dedicated and 512 hypermemory - at least hp says so (hp 8510p #GB967EA notebook).
but my ccc only says 256mb!

does that mean that hypermemory isnt available, or isnt on, or is everything ok but ccc simply doesnt show it?

thanks

Re: Hyper memory on/off?

typically though with hypermemory.. it doesn't make use of 1100mb... it just knows it's available.. and only uses it when it needs it.... therefore you really don't have to be worried about it...

Re: Hyper memory on/off?

The main reason why I want to turn it off, or at least decrease it, is that when my laptop has finished booting up, and before I start any programs, it shows 750 MB free out of 4GB. That's not much to play with for any game.

Re: Hyper memory on/off?

dont know how your system decides which gfx adapter to use, but i would try disabling the integrated (3200) in the device manager, so only 3650 with its dedicated memory is used, then certainly no system ram is allocated as shared gfx memory to the 3200.

still wondering about my 2600 - no answer about that by hp, except that end-user bios versions have any options for vram disabled .

is hypermemory enabled/supported by my mobility 2600 (hp 8510p gb967ea) if ccc (9.2) says 256mb or not?

Yes, it's Vista. I wonder if I should disable some services that I really don't need. I guess I have a bunch of OEM programs running that aren't really necessary as well. I'll have to look at that.

As I have it set right now it uses the 3650 when connected and to use the 3200 when it's running on battery. Of course I can set it to always use the 3650 but it will eat away the battery a lot faster if I do.

I've checked bios though and there's no setting in there I can work with. To be honest, there aren't much I can do at all in bios. Turn usb and wireless on or off, that's about it.

I doubt changing to only use the 3650 will remove the hypermemory, I don't see why it should.
