Re: Ati 4770
Sounds great. Another fine AMD product to potentially win at a DH competition.

Re: Ati 4770
that sounds like it might not even need a power source..
isn't PCI-EX 2.0 capable of 100watt power supply?

Re: Ati 4770
Seems like GDDR5 memory isn't quite so expensive anymore, even if they can also save a few bucks with a 128bit memory bus here instead.
PCIe 2.0 can deliver 150W, but even if a card is just below 75W(PCIe 1.0) it's probably wise include a power connector to be on the safe side. So they don't get the blame for not working with a few cheap motherboards. |

Re: Ati 4770
yeah makes sense.... i knew pci-ex 1.0 is 75watt (why they made that the orginal power is beyond me) just didn't know about the pci-ex 2.0 with looking it up.
still this should still mean that a pci-ex 1.0 user would need a power adapter.. adn one with a pci-ex 2.0 wouldn't... (shouldn't)

Yeah that is true. So what would be the solution on that? Do you think they could possibly do some odd "optional" adapter for people that have PCIe 1.0? I will be interested to see what they decide. Maybe it will be like those older Motherboards that have the optional plug if your CPU was a "power hog" and if you had a small one then you wouldn't have to use it.

Re: Ati 4770
Man, another product to crowd what is already a congested market!
There's so many different products out there at the moment it must be so difficult for the first time builder |

Re: Ati 4770
Sounds like it could be a storming card for the price, but where does it leave the 4670 and 4830 ?

As I've got posted in another thread, I've got two 3870's and even with the 4870's I'm looking at getting a new monitor, not a new card because of speed/performance/prices. It is nice to see in one aspect as they are pushing these out with the smaller dies to work out the bugs instead of dumping these out in the high end cards first to have people bitch about them. |
