strange graphic glitch 3650

hi there. i have a mobility radeon hd 3650 on my laptop and since i bought it, i experience some problems in games like fallout3, left4dead, and other recnt games. the game behaves well even at higher definitions but after some minutes the graphics go nuts, like someone is stretching them..

like in this picture... and this is a very lightly occurence...sometimes the whole monitor gets filled with this corrupted graphics..
i have already installed the drivers i found in this site but i can't get rid of this glitches even when i play these games in the lowest quality.

my laptop specs are:
core2duo t9400 @ 2.53Ghz
4gb ram
mobility radeon hd 3650 with 512mb

can anyone help me with this?

If the problem exists with different set of drivers and with several games, then I would guess it is either a high temperature issue or a damaged gpu.

Can you check the temperature of the GPU through the catalyst control center, before playing a game, and during playing a game as soon as those artifacts start?

How long do you have the laptop? If for at least several months, it is possible that dust has gone inside and is blocking the cooling of the system. Make sure there is no dust on the air intakes/etc. Place the laptop in 2 or 4 "feet" so that there is plenty of room underneath (and of course from the sides) and see if this problem continues. This could help if there is a temperature problem.

If it isn't a drivers or temperature problem, then it is possible that the gpu is dying.

i can't find anything on the catalyst control center that says the current temperature of my gpu.. i googled it and the only think i found was the overdrive feature, which i dont have since my graphic card is a mobility.

i bought the laptoplast christmas and i noticed this problems right away, after i installed prince of persia and played for a while.

indeed i feel that it gets really hot bellow after being playing for a while, and as i use it on my lap i tought it had some room for air to run through...

thanks for your help, and i'll try to get a way for it not to overheat.

your lap is a terrible place to place the laptop to have good circulation. Try to do what I said ealier, place 4 "feet" on the corners so that most of it is in the air and play like that, see how it goes.

i checked the temperature of my graphic card.. when the computer is idle, or i'm just surfing the web it stays around 44ºC (111ºF), after 5 minutes playing left4dead it jumped to 91ºC (195ºF), so i guess the problem must be overheating. i'll try and follow your advice. thank you very much

by the way. a friend of mine told me about a thing you put under your laptop, like a cooler or something... would that work?

Depends, there are some very bad ones that might make things worse. Are there any air ducts underneath the laptop?

It's most definitely a temp issue, 91 degrees is too high and there is something wrong there. Try what I said earlier and tell me the numbers you get.

i tried allowing some air beneath the laptop and the temperature while i was playing dropped to 81ºC (177ºF) max... i guess it is still pretty hot, but during the time i did this "test play" those glitches didn't appear.

What brand is the laptop? You might want to send it for repairs, perhaps the fan isn't working properly or something. It shouldn't be that hot so few months after purchase. If it was out of warranty I would tell you to open it and check it yourself, but if you do that now you will void it.

its an asus X56Va. yeah its still on warranty, so i guess the best thing to do now is get it checked.. thanks for your help.

EDIT: eh.. i think i figured out the problem... i had a program called Power4Gear (an energy application that i think comes with every recent asus laptop) and it was set to extreme. i lowered it down to battery saving mode, and now playing fallout3 which used to be the most problematic game, the gpu temperature never passes 56ºC. of course it has a price... i notice that graphics aren't as good as they where and the fan barely starts to work but its a price i gladly pay. thank to everyone who helped me anyway, you've been very helpful.

EDIT2: it really must have been that extreme mode that was melting my gpu. i set Power4Gear at normal mode and now i get the good graphics i was used to, and the fan works normally. and now it doesn't go past 65ºC ^^

I gues that was the problem. If the "extreme" level was overclocking it then placing it at normal should be fine. Unless the "extreme" setting was the normal full clocks for the GPU and at normal it is lower than normal. (it has been known to happen in other situations).
