ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7??
Help Please anyone have any ideas? I Have a Toshiba satellite P30C - RV200E laptop. Everything works fine except it won't install the display driver so I'm stuck on resolution 1024x768 . I tried out several tips & tricks I found from the net and hoped using the mod modder could fix my problem but sorry to say it still didn't do the trick ![]() I used 8-12_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_72275 with the latest modder 1.2.0.0 but no success. Thank You in advance I am willing to try almost anything. ![]() From Canada, Terry |

Cheese it! It's thefeds!
Couldn't help myself - but now that's out of the way - welcome. I had success just this past weekend installing the legacy driver Catalyst 9.3 set available from ATI/AMD Right Here on my desktop 9600XT card. The release notes for that driverset also state that Windows 7 is supported too. You could try the Mobility Modder you have on that set. The default driver included in the Win7 RC1 that was initially installed during the installation of the operating system gave me a Windows 7 Experience score of 3.9. After using the Legacy 9.3 Catalyst set, the Experience score rose to 4.4. Hopefully, you'll have no trouble using the Mobility Modder on that driverset, but if you do, and you'd like more help, just post again. We'll do what we can! |

@ thefeds
I recently installed Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 1660 that runs on the ATi Radeon Mobile 9600/9700 GPU. So after installing W7, I ran into the same problem you had. I could only get my resolution to run at 1024x768. so after 3 days of scouring the internet I found a driver that works. On cnet's download.com, I came across the XP driver: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series 6.14.10.6451 I ran the program and the installation could not complete because it recognized that I was not running Windows XP/2000. So what I did was try to install the driver directly from the device driver window. Here are the steps I took: Right clicked on the display adapter --> update driver software --> Browse my computer --> Let me pick from a list on my computer --> Have Disk --> and selected the CX_76831 driver...the and wouldn't you know, it accepted it. after the install, it prompted me to restart. Upon restarting, my resolution was at 1280x800 .I registered on this forum just to give the good news to you and anyone else with this problem. Cheers to all James |

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7??
Hi, I also had the problem with my amilo A 1630 mobility radeon 9700 drivers for 64 bit Windows 7.
I didn't find any working drivers for that, but when I reinstalled the Windows with 32 bit, the newest ati catalyst drivers with mobility modder works perfectly. Last edited by Tulikettu; Oct 4, 2009 at 02:33 PM. |

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7??
I have a Dell Inspiron 9200 with Radeon Mobility 9700 GPU. I had the same problem as you guys.
I tried both the 9.8 (Vista 32) and 9.3 (XP) drivers referred to here. Modded with the latest Mobility Modder. No go... I tried the link that Smart Parts PC referred to, but it was dead. I found a similar driver here. They wanted a fee for the download, so I found it here instead. Using Smart Parts method of install I had it up'n running in no time. Cheers Tor Arne |

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7??
I have had trouble getting the Radeon 9600 driver to install. I downloaded the most recent catalyst control center (9-8_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc.exe) from the ATI website and I ran the most recent version of the mobility modder (version 1.2.1.0). The Mod ran successfully. I then Went throught the setup of the Catalyst Control Center, and it finished. However, When I look at my device manager, it still shows that there is a missing driver. It did not install.
I am running the RTM version of Windows 7 on an HP NC8000 notebook. A few months back I installed the Windows 7 beta, and I was able to get the display driver to work (with aero and everything) by using the same method (although I used an older versin of the driver & modder). I did try using the old versions again but they didn't work either. I am thinking that Microsoft changed the OS since the beta in such a way that the driver no longer works. Any ideas? |

Have they changed the zip file? Anyone knows if there will be any official driver from ATI supporting Radeon 9600? Seems like the current official version worked on windows win7 beta but not with current win7! |

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7??
DRIVER FOUND
I have an Dell Inspiron 8600 with a Radeon 9600 Mobility chip in it that I upgraded to Win 7 today and found the same problem you are all experiencing. I remembered that Dell used to offer a Vista 32bit driver for this chipset and with a bit of searching on the Dell website found it. I now have my display running at 1680x1050 with a properly detected video card. The download can be found on Dell's website by searching for R153383 (The install file is R153383.exe) and the description for the driver update is "ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Series (ATI Portable Graphics Driver for Windows Vista 32-bit)". The following link is for a direct download http://ftp.us.dell.com/video/R153383.exe (60MB) on browsing the Dell FTP site after writing the rest of this I also found http://ftp.us.dell.com/video/ATI_MOB...01_R193181.EXE (60MB) not sure what OS it is for. Hope this helps you guys who have been having problems. |

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7??
I've just upgraded a 5-year-old AMD system from XP to Windows 7 Ultimate and have a problem. The MS Upgrade Advisor gave it a clean bill of health for upgrading and the upgrade/installation went well.
From what I can detect, the ASUS ATI 9600 series Radeon graphics card is causing the system to halt, black out, BSOD, mostly when I run Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2. The driver that Windows 7 put in for me is not an ATI driver, just a compatible VGA one with no secondary screen capability. I've been looking for a Windows 7 compatible ATI driver, to no avail. I found a Vista driver, but when I run it it aborts with "Unknown OS". The ASUSTek ATI graphics card is about 4 years old. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx & Cheerz, Geoff.

---- Drivers: Have you tried running the driver installer in compatibility mode? Or you can get the newer drivers to install by adding your adapter's id to the .inf file that comes with the drivers. "RADEON 9600 Series" = ati2mtag_RV350, your adapter's id goes here If you need to, you can verify the hardware id in your graphic card's properties > details > hardware id > one on top. Should read something like: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4150&SUBSYS_27721002 BTW it might set the refresh rate to something your screen cannot support, in which case you have to startup in VGA mode to fix those. Or you could go back with XP. Maybe someone else can you give you a better answer. |

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7??
Thanks for your reply & Happy New Year; I'm just regaining conscienceness...
Your questions: >> Do the 3d games run at all before it all crashes? Yes, 3D Mahjongg and Combat Flight Simulator 2 and mostly they play for a while normally and then the system just suddenly freezes. Sometimes CFS2's scenery window goes black and after a short wait I can stop the program get out and the system is OK. But mostly it's a total freeze and a reboot is necessary. I can run CFS2 no problem if I disable HW acceleration in the CFS2 display options, but the scenery is bad and the screen is jerky. >> Have you tried running the driver installer in compatibility mode? Yes, and I got "wrong OS" and exit during the first part of the installation. >> Or you can get the newer drivers to install by adding your adapter's id to the .inf file that comes with the drivers. >> "RADEON 9600 Series" = ati2mtag_RV350, your adapter's id goes here >> If you need to, you can verify the hardware id in your graphic card's properties > details > hardware id > one on top. Should read something like: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4150&SUBSYS_27721002 I checked the properties of the MS compatible driver (WDDM) in Device Manager and there are four entries for the hardware ids. The first is: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4152&SUBSYS_C01A1043&REV_00 It's an ATI 9600XT Radeon. I'll take a look at the driver .inf file and see how I can modify it. >> BTW it might set the refresh rate to something your screen cannot support, in which case you have to startup in VGA mode to fix those. I don't know how to do that. >> Or you could go back with XP. Maybe someone else can you give you a better answer. I am actually using my Windows 7 system in multiboot (dualboot) with XP, so I can always go back. I'd just like to move on with Windows 7, but I guess I'll have to change my mobo, cards and memory... It seems that although Upgrade Advisor says everything's OK, there are still HW incompatibilities. >> Read more: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Drivers & Windows 7?? OK, Thanx. Will check that out. I can't seem to fiind this file ANYWHERE. It is like it disappeared off the internet. All links to (support.ati.com) don't work and forget AMD. They tell you to go to your laptop manufacturer and has all their logo(links) at the bottom.

Hello All,
Like everybody who has posted here, I installed Windows 7 (32bit) onto my Dell Inspiron 9200 which features a Mobility Radeon 9700 video card. And like everybody here, Windows 7 installed a generic VGA driver which was limited to a 1024x768 resolution, with no Aero support. I tried modding the ATI Catalyst drivers with no success. I then tried manually installing the driver's inf file like was suggested in a previous post. This only worked so far as to allow me to have a 1440x900 resolution, but I had no Aero or 3D hardware support with this option. I am happy to announce to everybody reading this post that I have finally found a solution which works! Go into the hardware device listing in Windows 7, select the current video card and manually update the driver. At this point you choose the driver options which are on the Windows 7 DVD. Obviously there is no Mobility Radeon 9700 listed, but there is a RADEON 9700 PRO available. Choose the driver for RADEON 9700 PRO. You'll initially get a message saying that Windows 7 cannot guarantee the performance or compatibility of the driver, blah, blah, blah. Just install it anyway and reboot when it is done. Doing this, the first thing you'll notice is the resolution should be correct. In my case, it was at 1440x900. But at this point I still didn't have Aero working. To correct this, I simply ran the Windows Performance Index test. Once the test was complete, I saw right away that Aero was working properly! Windows 7 gave me a Aero performance score of 3.4 and a 3D Gaming score of 4.1. Not bad considering this laptop is almost 6 years old! I hope this helps in getting your Mobility Radeon 9700 card working properly in Windows 7. :-) |
