Re: Do you guys think my 500W PSU is enough to hold ATI 5850.

A decent 500W PSU should be enough. I know a lot of people who ran 4870 cards with quality 400W PSUs and since the power requirements of 5870 are in the same ballpark as those of 4870 and 4890, a 500W CoolerMaster should be fine.

lucky!

Yes, as IvanV said as long as it's decent (and being coolermaster I'm sure it will be) it should be fine. Have fun with it

The longer you have your PSU, the worse it will get.
If it is a very good PSU, it might be enough.
But, I wouldn't risk it in the long run.

My thoughts as well. It's going to be on the ragged edge as far as AMPs output on the +12V rail(s).

You really should upgrade the PSU to something newer that puts out more AMPS on the +12v rail(s). If anything, THAT spec is more important than the Wattage.

Re: Do you guys think my 500W PSU is enough to hold ATI 5850.

PSU capacitor aging is worth taking into consideration, but with the PCI-E slot supplying 75W, he'll need less than 10A of current from the additional power connector and it's a pretty safe bet that a 12V rail on his PSU will have no problem delivering that.

EDIT: How old is the PSU anyway? If it's less than a couple of years old, aging won't be much of an issue too soon.

Re: Do you guys think my 500W PSU is enough to hold ATI 5850.

What's the rated 12v rails.

I've a 500watt PSU from coolermaster that is rated 2x12v @ 18amp and it'll power a relatively decent machine and a HD3870/4870 without any major issue..

It's the Extreme Power with the P4+P4 8pin motherboard connector however... the earlier versions are only P4 4pin and rated 16 amps on the 12v which i had a slight issue powering the 4870 but the 3870/3850 was fine.

Re: Do you guys think my 500W PSU is enough to hold ATI 5850.

it's a coolermaster, like he said in the first post.

But as others mentioned, the most important thing is how much Amp the 12V rail(s) delivers.

Re: Do you guys think my 500W PSU is enough to hold ATI 5850.

Didn't see that

When I look at the CM website I only see 2 PSU's with a wattage of 500. The Extrme Power has 2 18A rails and the Silent has 34A on one rail. More than enough for that HD5850 I think.
