Re: ATI X1550 woes
It sounds like might be your power supply. How old is it, and did it come with the case?
There should be a sticker on the side of the PSU giving the model number and listing the specs. Could you give us the brand name (I'm assuming that it's an Antec if it came with the case) and the model number? Also, what does it give as the AMP rating for the +12v output?

Re: ATI X1550 woes
No Mfg date, but has a "date code?" of 0514. Power supply is mfd by Thermaltake Technology Co. Ltd. Its called a PUREPOWER and has a model number HPC-420-102 DF . It is a 420 watt max load. +5 volts = 40amps, +3.3 volts = 30amps, +12 volts = 18amps, -5 volts = .3amps, -12 volts = .8amps, +5VSB = 2amps. My best guess puts it at 5 years old max, but possibly less.

Re: ATI X1550 woes
It could be that you have a failing PSU on your hands. Or if it isn't necessarily failing, its old enough that its lost some of its original output and isn't able to hold up the new card as well.

Re: ATI X1550 woes
Checked out the PSU and its functioning correctly. All lines have proper voltage. It is a 420 watt and that seems adequate for what I have in the computer. The computer only decides to reboot after 2 to 4 hours of use (for no obvious apparent reason). The heat sensors in the case are all in the normal operating range. One of them is 2" from the video card, so that's not a problem. I can leave the computer on for longer than 4 hours without it rebooting if I leave it at the desktop and don't run any programs. I have DDR400 ram on the Motherboard but the Video card has 512mb of GDDR2 memory on it. I didn't foresee a problem with this different memory speed because all my other adapters have always had faster memory on them than the Motherboard ram. What do you think? and what do we try next? I deleted the drivers and updated them. Most of my equipment and software is older than the Video card so I didn't perceive that as a problem, but did it anyway. I am testing it now to see if that might help.
