ATI Radeon HD5670 pictured

TechConnect Magazine - Alleged Radeon HD 5670 pictured

"Covered on mid-range and high-end, AMD is now working away on the first low-end desktops graphics cards to feature DirectX 11 support, those powered by the Redwood and Cedar 40nm GPUs. As it happens in this day and age, waiting for an official announced, which should come in Q1 2010, is optional, since a Redwood-based card, allegedly the Radeon HD 5670 has already been pictured.

The quite compact card has a 128-bit interface and 400 Stream Processors, it boasts active cooling, supports CrossFireX and provides three connectivity options - D-Sub, DVI and HDMI. This Radeon is supported to have a GPU clock of 775 MHz and 1GB of GDDR5 memory @ 4000 MHz, and it doesn't require more power than that delivered via the PCI-Express slot. The Radeon HD 5670's pricing is unconfirmed but it should be somewhere around or just under $100."

Hey, looks like a neat card for a budget workstation.

Re: ATI Radeon HD5670 pictured

Nice! With a humble transistor count and 40nm technology, the chip should be fairly cheap to manufacture and taking into account the PCB which is both tiny and mostly empty the entire card could be dirt cheap. Being a half of a 5770 will also make it a decent performer, so I think that this card is going to make lots of gamers on strict budgets happy.

While the 5770 or 4770's are powerful suckers.. the 5670 is likely similare to that of the 4670 which is also a pretty potent player.

The 4670's i've played with are VERY adequate for even medium resolution monitors.. 1680x1050 for example would be probably sufficient. Anything higher and it's start coughing up..

But they were CHEAP.... and still spit out shocking figures at least for me.

The 4650's however is when things take a nose dive.

Yes , I have 4670HD and it is very good on 1280*1024 except Crysis , I am thinking of getting 24" monitor soon before the prices might go up.

So that means with this 5670 we could play @ 1280x1024 with no problems?

Depends on which game you're playing, but in general: yes. Although you shouldn't think everything above 4x AA is going to work well..

Re: ATI Radeon HD5670 pictured

I know, i don`t expect to be high-end, but still, almost everything with 4xAA@ 1280x1024 should have no problems as you said. Under 100$ i find that pretty cool.

Re: ATI Radeon HD5670 pictured

Uhu, I think it will become a nice card, like the HD4670.

Positive aspect about these cards is that they often have passive cooling and still don't get too hot. And this passive cooling doesn't makes the price difference with the normal one too big, which is the case with high-end cards like the HD5770.

Re: ATI Radeon HD5670 pictured

Well, I haven't played too many games since I've got my 4670, but, out of the bigger and more demanding titles, I've played World in Conflict (DX10), Assassin's Creed (DX10) and Tropico 3 (DX9, but great engine), all of them maxed out at 1920*1080 so it's a great little performer. For truth's sake, I have to point out that the framerates were far from stellar in all of them (none of these games is a FPS, so they were still perfectly enjoyable), but at 1280*1024, the 5670 should do very well with it's 25% more SPs, slightly bumped GPU frequency and a massive amount of memory bandwidth compared to the 4670.

As for the passively cooled versions, we'll have to wait and see. The 5670 has the 40nm technology going for it, but the 4670, which almost certainly has fewer transistors, runs pretty hot under load even with active reference cooler. Mine is running at very reasonable temperatures, but Gigabyte gave it got a slightly different cooling solution which also lacks any form of fan speed control (meaning that it's effectively running at 100% at all times).

Re: ATI Radeon HD5670 pictured

the 4670's i've had run 1080/1200 resolutions relatively well.. your not going to see 60fps mind you but it's above the 30fps mark for majority of the content.. (provided the card has enough memory)

each jump in generation shows a relatively good improvement... performance wise.
