ATi 4870 under Win7

i decided to install Win7 and chek out the temps of my gfx card under idle (i was assuming all the aero 3d interface thing might prevent throttling)

but.. i noticed something else...

note the fan speed is at ~80% .. .IDLE o.o

restart to windows xp, and fan is at ~50% idle

--------------

question is.... am i missing out on some "fan fix" update for win7? anyone else noticed this?

ofc, it hasnt been ruled out that maybe its reporting incorrectly (even tho its the same app)... ill be certain wen i open the case and notice and change in fan speed...

until then, anyone can tell me why fan speeds are so high, even though other parameters are the same as under win xp ? Oo

thx

if the fan was spinning at 80%.... you'd NOTICE a huge different in the sound produced by the computer itself....

so is there a change in the audioable sound the fan makes?

I prefer to go by Catalyst CC

haha, well i know i shudve done the audible test, but it was a late night install.. had to sleep

anyway, the hsf is the one from the freezer dht, so its not as loud as the stock fans that come... so the noise generated at 100% fan speed is like the noise generated at 70% fan speed for the stock

ill chek up with ccc too (i'd just installed the driver as it was smaller in size to dl :P)

anyway, thx for the replies ^^

Re: ATi 4870 under Win7

update:
ccc shows the same fan readings in win7(83%) and in winxp(52%)

i open up the case, running in xp, and turn up the fan speed manually using ccc to "fingerprint" the sound/whine generated at 83%

log into win7, and its the same.... so now im confused. why is win7 pucking up my fan settings.

oh and another problem....i unlocked the safety in ccc and with "Manual Fan Control" unchecked, the fan is now also running at 83% in win xp =.='

im gettin a feeling that the unlocking of overdrive somehow interfered with the fan settings

is there a way to reset ccc back to its original state? (thru the registry or something...)

Re: ATi 4870 under Win7

well tried to re-lock ccc... thru the registry key in :
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATI\ACE\Settings\Dashbo ard\Graphics\Overdrive5]

and it didnt work

fan still runs at 83% idle in win xp.. bah
