Slooooooooooww
I bought a Radeon HD3850 last year and it worked fine etc but it slowed my pc down a bit on loading up =(
So, with me not having the best PC in the world (P4 3.4GHz and 2Gb RAM) I thought it might not be able to support it... (bottle-necking..??) and I ended up buying a X1650 Pro 512mb to see how that was. It ended up being even slower on start up and it takes well over 5mins to turn on and open firefox. I wondered if this could be something to do with the drivers left over from my graphics cards...? Not sure how to sort it out so any help would be much appreciated =) Thanks, Ben |

Re: Slooooooooooww
it has nothing to do with gfx drivers. it just general slowness of the system. have you defragmented the hdd??

Re: Slooooooooooww
You might have a bunch of bloatware or even spy/adware programs lagging you down too.

Try a clean installation of windows better and see if it works.

Re: Slooooooooooww
Its may be best to run an spyware program first of all..Something like ad-aware.
And then defrag the hard drive... If that has not been run for some time, even something as simple as that can slow a system down. At a last resort Format the hdd and reinstall the OS,Then defrag. It looks more like its a system issue and not a Driver issue. |

Re: Slooooooooooww
I have never had a video card cause slow loading except when I switched from Nvidia to ATI due to Catalyst Control Center needing resources on my aged system years ago. I'd have a look at what you have set to start when your OS loads and see if anything can be changed or removed. As iPlayer said you may have some nasty programs that are causing your system to bog down. Have a look at your processes to see if there is anything that looks out of the ordinary.

Re: Slooooooooooww
Just one thing, your CPU was probably bottlenecking your old card in newer games, but there's no reason why the system would run faster (in any situation) if you substituted the card for a slower one, so I hope you still have the 3850.

Re: Slooooooooooww
The bottleneck would only limit your graphic adapter from performing at its limits. Changing to a slower vid card is just a loss/loss situation.
Your general system slowdowns come from elsewhere. Could be the updated versions of the software you use don't manage system resources properly, or just require that much more juice, so as to say. If not one of the other possible reasons aforementioned already, or something else. Might be worth it to check your system's hardware status in general as well. |

Re: Slooooooooooww
CCleaner will run a scan and delete all your temp and internet temp files for you after you install it if you don't want to manually do it otherwise, Defrag would help as well as removing programs that are starting with Windows. the X1650 is a down grade in performance by the way, I'd go back to the X3850.

Re: Slooooooooooww
I've been defragging it every month and using ccleaner every couple of days and I've deleted loadsa shit off my pc already. I think it might be Norton 360 so I've swapped it for NOD32. I'll swap back to the HD3850 like you said since its not going to help having a slower graphics card in lol =)
Thanks guys |

Re: Slooooooooooww
Norton and McAfee bogged my system down like you wouldn't believe. Even Kaspersky Internet Security was bad although I didn't know it until I won a key for the NOD32 suite. You'll certainly notice a different if you change your anti-virus.
