I told him to check that several posts previously. Go to the manufacturer's website and check for Updates for the MOTHERBOARD.

As you have already getting some advice already... Just as Dyre has mentioned..

One great little tool to download is CPU-Z < Click this Link... that can be downloaded via techPowerUP.

Install and click the "Mainboard" tag at the top... this will tell you which chipset you are using..

FWIW, I posted a link to the manual for this motherboard. It uses the SIS 648 Chipset.

If I could find an Intel....or even an AMD... motherboard with AGP to offer, I'd be happy to send one just to get you away from the SIS chipset!

I've had some time to do a bit more research and it seems that this VERY VERY OLD chipset had problems with AGP recognition. So, it's not so much Windows crapping out, it's that particular chipset from Silicon Integrated Systems (SIS).

And, the fact, too, that it IS so old (around 10 years or so), and the ATI Card is so much NEWER, doesn't really help matters, either.

I'd say that, unless you can find some newer drivers for that SIS 648 Chipset-based motherboard, you're better off going back to whatever model of AGP card you've been using. I, quite honestly, think you're beating your head against a wall trying to get any improved performance from it.

I have no idea if this one will work, but, it was JUST posted and is a Hotfix for AGP cards. It's also based on the most recent WHQL drivers.

AMD Catalyst? 11.11 Driver Download for AMD Radeon? AGP Graphics Products: AMD Radeon HD 4xxx, AMD Radeon HD 3xxx and AMD Radeon HD 2xxx series of products
