??? Is it possible

I own an AMD graphics card (not sure of exact model, but shouldnt matter). It has 2 DVI and 1 HDMI mini outputs...I currently have my 2 monitors connected via DVI and the TV connected via HDMI mini. I know that it doesn't support three devices at the same time, for instance I can only have 2 monitors on at once, or 1 monitor and the TV at one time because it will automatically shut the third device off.

Currently I have to either use dual monitor setup or primary monitor and TV. If I buy an HDMI splitter, will it allow me to have all three devices connected and on at the same time? For instance, If i connect the Primary Monitor/TV up to the splitter (which will be directly connected to PC) and the second monitor connected as is...can I have dual independent monitors running as well as have the TV mirror the primary monitor? Will I be able to have all three devices running at once even though this gpu wont support it?

I just want my TV to mirror primary monitor and have the second monitor be independent for dual-monitor usage. So is this possible? Primary/TV mirrored and secondary monitor independent (to use for dual-monitor usage)

Re: Is it possible

A splitter should be able to do that....

However it can introduce additional problems potentially...

I'd advise you to either get a video card with eyefinity capabilities (allowing you to run 3 monitors at the same time... it would be less problematic.

Re: Is it possible

^^ Agreed. If not, at the very least you can at least get a standard PCI or PCIe card to go in your machine if your system allows it.

Adding another card can potentially be cheaper than getting an adapter or splitter.

Re: Is it possible

yeah a HD5450 512mb card can be had for less than what a proper hdmi splitter would likely cost.

AND some boards actually use intelligent design, meaning you can insert a pci-ex 16 card into a pci-ex 4x slot (provides the slot allows it)... a few motherboards use this ... IF you don't have another 16x slot that is.

Alternatively they still do make pci adapters... but they are really getting expensive now.

Re: Is it possible

Okay well the MOBO I have is the ASUS M4A87TD if I remember correctly...so does this hold the required slot to add another basic graphics card? Is it as simple as adding another gpu and I can then run 3 devices? Bc the gpu I have currently supports 2

Re: Is it possible

Based on the specifications of the board I found on NewEgg, then yes. This will be quite easy for you as this board has 2x PCIe 16x slots. You can install two video cards into your system no problem and if you'd even like, you add in a 3rd 1x PCIe card in the 1x PCIe slot located above the primary 16x PCIe slot.

Re: Is it possible

If you running windows xp.. it's highly recommended that you run same brand cards..

in vista... you MUST run the same brand gpu.. you cannot mix ati/nvidia...

Win7 you can mix it up..

But for ease of use and whatnot.. it's usually best to just get 2 similare cards in the same series.... if you have a HD5770 for example... an HD5450 would be a good choice.
