9600Pro: Problems with EA-Games

Hy!

I'm German, so excuse my weak English language! I'll try my best...

I bought an original "built by ATI" Radeon 9600Pro. Driver installation was a little bit tricky but finally (after "format C:" and WinXP reinstallation) it worked.

Benchmarks show good results (3200 at 3DMark2003 with Athlon XP 2000+ and 512 MB DDR/2700 CL2), and games like Operation Flashpoint or GTA ViceCity function well, too.

With other games I experience difficult problems. C&C Generals locks already in the first screen. The same system lock with SimCity 4. Both EA-Games. If I reduce the hardware accelaration to "Standard" the game starts but I must suffer from a flickering mouse cursor (in connection with bad performance).

ATI doesn't respond to my support-questions. Other owners of this Chip have the same problems.

Does anybody have a resolution for my problem?

Thanks for your help!

What Cat. driver are you running? Now when the Cat. drivers first came out some people had to turn down the hardware acceleration one notch but that problem has been supposedly gone in recent driver releases. Also do you have anything overclocked? What version of DX are you running? Are the games up to date? Give us your system specs as well please.

NMKronos; I have a 9800 pro and have the same problems as you but only after installing Dx9.0b. I am in a frantic search for how to fix this problem as it is impossible to play my beloved F1Challenge game!

I found out something interesting:

if I start the game (c&c generals) and DONT move the mouse - nothing happens. The start screen is displayed and the game works. I can see the standard movement of units which are shown in the title screen.

I switched my mouse from USB to PS/2 but there is still the problem with my locking c&c after moving the mouse.
The reduction of hardware acceleration only effects the mouse cursor acceleration (I read this). This means that I can reduce possible sources of this error to my mouse (MS Wheel Mouse Optical) or the hardware acceleration of the mouse cursor (more possible!). But that doesn't help me ;-) because the problem is still existing ...

Been battleing Tiger Woods(ea.sports) since I installed a 9600p over a 8500 yesterday. Locked up after a hit or two. I tried lots of different drivers and nothing worked. I uninstalled smartgart and have the 3.5 cats in working pretty good. I didn't want to do it because of ATI's warning about stability, but my fast write was disabled in bios even when it was enabled in the control panel. Changing it to disabled only made it worse.

Is it really all that bad to uninstall smartgart?

Guys,

I'll i cant recreate this issue. It all seems to work fine for me.

What i would suggest is you all go to http://apps.ati.com/driverfeedback/ and submit the form, this will mean that if there is an issue ATI will be aware of it.
