ATI 9800Pro TX 256DDR is it worth it if you have a 9700 Pro ?

i was just wondering guys

those of you with TX 256DDR cards post a reply what do you think of the performance...

also would i be about to see a speed improvment... with the specz i have...

Amd 2500+ barton @ 3500+
Gigabyte Ga7-NNXP
512 Cosair XMS DDR @418mhz
ATI 9700 Pro 128DDR

i realy want to know if its realy worth it in the end... and my main consern is with my 9700 Pro would i be able to play HL2 and DOOM3 with respectable Frame Rates.... with max detail ?

if i cant could you tell me if the TX will play good enough at max details on HL2 and Doom3

A 9700pro will play Doom III with decent framerates. Don't worry. I'd wait for the prices to settle a little more.

Yep, the 9700Pro should be fine for D3. Seems most people buy a card prior to their uber-game coming out, when they really should be waiting till it's out and then upgrading...

The TX is a lower quality slow version of the card. Do not ever buy one.

Keep your 9700pro.

erm ? i would like you to back that claim up with proof.. ?

i thought the 9800 Pro TX 256DDRII was faster than the 9800 Pro 256DDR as its clocked higher and has a internal OVERCLOCK approved by ATI......

thx guys for your imputs to far but is there any REVIEWS out there
like HL2 TX 256DDRII reviews on HL2/D3

im thinking about getting the Asus ATI 9800 PRo DDRII TX with in 1/2 weeks.
overclock.co.uk should have them in buy then and its romoured to be £355 InC VAT Retail.
and should come with HL2 me thinks...

Acctually I didn't I thought you were buying one and mistook it for the XT. No problem though. I personally will not be buying one because I have been able to clock my r9800non pro to 450 artifact free. I'll get a 256M pro when the XT comes out because the price should fall, and it should be able to overclock to almost the same levels.

in my experience unless you start hardware modding the 256 boards, ive found they dont overclock as well as the 128 boards. any 9800 based board atm is capable of running anything thrown at it in the forseeable future.

In relation to the first question, id say yes if you have the money, otherwise wait for the 9800 pros to drop.

With how cool the 9600XT will run, I want to see how far I can push the clock.

also my eye is on the XT 256 becuse of the extra 128DDR that shurely will come in handy when games next year start takeing advantage of the extra memory power :P

I'd save the money for ATI's next gen part honestly. If you have the wild-hair to go faster why don't you start modding the 9700? I just picked up a 1U copper heatsink, some BGA copper sinks, and mounted them last night. Not sure how much I can O/C the card, but I'll report back if anybody is interested. I may go as far as to volt-mod it. I just have to make sure I have enough to buy an XT in case I hose this card!
