I believe all retail "made by ATI" cards have a lifetime warranty. When I called them they said they didn't even need a receipt. But another solution would be to install a fan in your case directly blowing on your card. I did that and my stock cooler w/ a 60mm fan lets my 9700pro run at 355 core (w/ the cat 3.8's) all day long (w/ some Ceramique on it)
Stock cooling on 9700pros is horrible, between the shim that doesn't let the heatsink come into direct contact w/ the gpu to the chewing gum they use for thermal compound, I'm surprised any 9700pro's with stock cooling ever last more that 6 months.. Even if you get another card it's going to have barely enough cooling. I would seriously consider getting some better cooling, even if you rma this card. **edit- But I wouldn't ever remove the shim, much too dangerous, better to take a dremel to the heatsink where it would contact the shim to give enough clearing so that it makes good contact w/ the gpu- that's what I would do if I got another 9700p- the new 9800pro's have a protrusion on the heatsink that gets around this problem, and I think they use "real" thermal compound too. Maybe you could get a stock 9800p cooler to use on your 9700p- I'm not sure if the holes line up though.

Someone said that all built by ati cards have a lifetime warranty. No, they don't. They usually have a three year warranty though. The reason they probably didn't ask for a reciept is that the card would have been introduced less than three years ago. Also, if you believe it's a hardware problem, call ATI or deal with their email tech support and have the card RMAed.

My warranty is gone anyway now since I modded my card, but I didn't know I'd be doing that before I bought it

I wonder why the guy told me lifetime? Oh well, mine lasted about 5 weeks anyway (my choice)-
Plus 3 years is good enough, three years from now a 9700pro will be slow as hell and pretty useless for gaming I imagine.
