realsandman is on a distinguished road

Pissed my 9800pro sucks!

What is with my rig!!
My scores in 3dmark03patched = 6243
3dmark2001sepatched = 17653
pcmark2002 = cpu6166 mem6237 hd1232

Now these seem real slow, my rig is- p4 2.4b 533fsb oc=2.55
512ddr2700, 120maxtorhd, 9800pro 128
Now im using 3.8 ati cat, directx9b and all uptodate and certified drivers.

I have o/c 9800pro slightly and it seemed stable, no artifacts and no slowdown,
my system temp is 43'c max, at full load and 32'c idle.

I have fastwrite off, and all settings are to default max performance.
All background programs are off during benchmark.
System restore off.Hibernate off.
Desktop theme's off.

What more can i do? how can i improve on my lame scores.
Please help!!!

Yeah 6243 is such a lame 3dmark 03 score, and 17,6xx is so bad for 01--

Whatever man.

* Try turning your drivers to app preference and all the lowest sliders for D3D.

Those scores aren't bad at all- what were you expecting?

There not? well im kinda new to this thing, had this rig built for me and did not know what to exspect, i aint happy with my cpu, should of got the 3.0c but was in a rush and did not check around first.I will be upgrading to amd's new 64fx in 6 weeks along with a new mobo that surports it, i think that sis one is ok? also i will be trying that ddr500, i heard its very good.I will stick with my 9800pro128 and leave the 9800xt for a bit, see what its like first.
Thanks for the post.

What sort of over clocking can i get out of my card?
I have had it 400/350, with no probs but dont want to push it beyond what i know it can do, any sugestions on speeds.
Also how do i find out the memory make? i.e is it samsung, as i have heard depending on the 9800pro's memory make depends on o/c stability.
One more thing, what is the best o/c tool? im using powerstrip at the moment.
Thanks alot,
sam

Radclocker is pretty cool-

I wouldn't OC the ram until you have ramsinks on it- just from my own experience, it isn't worth the risk and the price of good ram heatsinks is so small compared to what you invested in that card.

Also make sure you have very good case ventilation before you OC- cut a hole right in the side of your case next to the Video card and pop in a nice big 80mm fan.. It works great.

Here's what I did- 9700pro stays very cold.

I just ordered some ramsinks from 1coolpc. I'm going to put those on this week and then overclock a little myself. I have a 80mm fan blowing right on my vid card from the side panel window. Also have 3 80mm fans blowing cool air in and two 80mm's exhausting air. My case temps never go above 24C which is good.

Nice, isn't it?- never ever having to worry about heat....
My case temp is always around 23 to 24 too- CPU is always 37 to 42.5 at the hottest. (and that's a Palamino 1800+ @ 1.8volts doing 1690mhz -deafault 1533) /w no special HSF.

Even my 9800SE scores better than that.

Anyway, that 3dmark2k3 score is almost double mine, you should be happy.

Yeah, that test doesn't really depend on CPU that much at all- If you want I think you could get that score up around 4500 or more- Are you sure you are testing w v-sync off and all sliders in D3D set to far left? Also Application preference for AA and AF? Do all this and run test again- You will definitely score higher. If not you don't have a 9800 or you have a bad driver install or very bad config somewhere.

Is this a 9800pro or just a 9800 non-pro?

*edit- I dee it's a pro in your sig now-

dude- you should see at least 5200 or so.

I've seen higher w/ a 9800pro- but those are good scores, nothing to worry about.. You can always tweak more, oc more, buy faster stuff, but I don't think anything is "wrong" with the scores you have for your settup. That 3dmark 03 seems above average.

Is your card a 9800 SE flashed to a 9800 PRO?

I know the 9800 PRO i bought in a retail box was a fake. Had to take the thing back. Sounds like you have a dud. Only way to be sure is check the PN number, RAM and Core speeds (at default) as well as the pipelines (use Aida32):

Check this link out

O.T O yeah BWX232 you say you like red video cards... hmm well i like blue ones!

Before you start insulting people in this forum what dont you read up first, all these guys are doing is trying to answer your questions and be helpful and instead of thanking them for their suggestions you insult them, for your information Funky Monkey has a point a 9800se when flashed with a bios for 9800pro will show up with the same exact specs as the original 9800pro, so NO you would not be able to tell the diffrence beacause it will show up the same in Aida32

With that attitue maybe you should go to Rage3d, virtually everbody came from overthere beacause they got sick of that kind of immature behavior.
