AGP speed problems with SMARTGART(tm)
just built meself a new computer
spec: AMD2800+ Asus kt600 mobo (8x compatable) 1x512DDR kingston pc3200 RAM gigabyte radeon 9800 pro 128MB and all the usual stufff problem: damn AGP speed wont stay on 8x.... its set to 8x in BIOS and in the SMARTGART i change it to 8x and restart... but it then goes back to 4x... smartgart tests ur machine and set things for optimal settings... so i uninstalled it to try n stop it changing but no affect... anyone kno what might b wrong?? i wud like some feedback!!! cheers another noobster |

update your chipset drivers. that i often the fault.
http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V600&langs=09 presume that is the correct mobo. via chipset drivers.http://downloads.viaarena.com/driver...N1_V449vp2.zip that is quite often the problem. you may consider updating the bios also. (non responsibility for errors )

Johny's spot on! i had the same problem with my 9800pro after fresh installation of xp, it would go back to 4x once rebooted.Once i installed the latest via 4in1 drivers problem solved!

P.s Carefull if updating bios, i did it last week and it fu**** up my pc BIG time!
Lucky for me the place i had build my rig just replaced my mobo for me on the spot and sent the old one back to be re-flashed. I wont touch bios no more
