??? XT vs. Pro

OK, maybe I've been living under a rock for the past couple of months. Or maybe I'm just stupid but what's the difference between 9x00 Pros and 9x00 XTs? In other words, what does the XT mean?

Just get a 9800pro and o/c to XT speeds, that way you get the same card for a lot less, the twinfans are nice on the XT but thats only if you go with the stock cooling.
P.s does anybody know how much better the XT cools? are the temps the same as the 9800pro at the same speeds>?

Not worth the extra dough at ALL. Go pro. XT is just a SLIGHTLY higher clocked speeded pro card with the oc'ing feature. Just marketing tactics, go pro or your gonna pay a lot more.

Actually there is a softmod (bios flash) for a 9800pro to XT but it doesnt work on all cards.

Example a friend of mine did it to his Gigabyte 9800pro and benched it with 3dm2k3 and he got over 8k when his older score was 6.5 k .

So yes its worth it a quite harmless if done right and have proper cooling BEFORE you try it.

It will be flashed and register as a 9800XT with 412/365 clocks.
And best of all ...the OVERDRIVE will work but not completely since the pro DOESNT have the Built in HEAT SENSOR.

Anyone daring enough go HERE

*puts on responsible cap*

Remember kids, this is very risky and unless you can blind flash it back i wouldnt expect an RMA from the manufacturer. Just be safe and overclock it with Powerstrip or Rage3dtweak.

*takes of cap*

But if you do try it...be sure to let us know how you get on

Very well said !

I ad to blind flash about 10 different cards when testing them for 9500np to 9700 modding.
Most of them had weird lines/squares etc at bootup so i decided to try defferent bios files to make sure it wasnt the memory.

Its not really that hard if you have the boot disk ready with an alternate bios file.
All you do is boot up after the "bad" flash with your boot disk and when the floppy stops reading you know its ready for the command.

Use a command like atiflash -f -p 0 xxxx.bin and your off...
About 45 secs (to be safe) later reboot your rig.

Another method is to use a PCI graphics card and boot up with that as your monitor and the agp card STILL in the rig so you can flash it.

The only way you CANT go back is after a successfull flash you fried your card from TOO much overclocking .

Im still waiting for a bios from a 9800XT but with 128 mb ram so i can do mine
and im sure will work on most cards too.

I have a club3d radeon 9800pro now. suprisingly though this sucker got a score of 6.600 on 3dm2k3 with a mild OC since im waiting for a new cooler for it (VGA Silencer).

Any how...goodluck to the brave ones.
