BloodRayne + 9600Pro = No DirectX
I recently upgraded my video card from a RADEON 8500 128 MB to a RADEON 9600 Pro 128 card.
I'm using the latest drivers for everything I can find on my system. I've very keen on doing that. I have all the Windows Updates for my system as well. The game installs and plays the intro movie just fine. BUT, when it reaches the gamer input screen, I get no screen at all, only a message: DirectX Error: 88760868 The device is lost......and cannot be restarted..... I'm using DirectX9.0b. I can play in OpenGL, after a LOT of adjusting settings. However, I have to be very selective about Resolution and such because the screen becomes some kind of virtual screen with all the inputs clear off the bottom of the monitor. It's really a mess to begin with. BUT, I had absolutely no problem with the game on my 8500. Any clues? I have uninstalled, run a registry cleaner, deleted folders, and reinstalled twice so far. EDIT: I have resolved this issue with BloodRayne. I had to set my Desktop to 16 bit and make sure to NOT select BumpMapping in the game settings.

Well, I guess I only 'thought' the issue was resolved. I've had several more instances of this DirectX error. In most cases, though, all it takes is starting the game again.
But, I've gotten now to the point in the game where there's the 'mid-game cutscene'. This is the movie that was released prior to the release of the game last year. This is the movie where Rayne enters the Nazi's chambers and cuts off his ear and then finishes the job while taking on some guards. At the end of the movie, I get the DirectX error and the game crashes. So far, nothing I've tried will let me get past this point. I've tried ESC'ing the movie; pressing the Space Bar to skip it; and anything else I can think of. But, nothing's working. Any ideas? |
