The Shuttering has returned!!
Greetings everyone its been quite some time since ive been here at DriverHeaven =)
I have made many upgrades since my last visit in january where I was going through the ever so exciting Infinite loop error. Since then ive set my system to be... MSI KT6 Delta Athlon XP 2500+ 1024mb Elixer PC 2700 ATI Radeon 9700 Pro SB Audigy 2 40GB HD x 2 Well recenetly I receive 2 extremely nice hard drives as a present, an early christmas present if you will.... I got 2 Western Digital Raptors which I am very impressed by. specs are as follows SATA 150mbs 36GB 10,000RPM 8mb Cache So at first i figure wow what a nice set up. Ill go and install this right away! Being how i am only a gamer id ont have much to reinstall other then games and a OS. SO halfway through the regular install a brilliant idea came to mind. I have 2 of these beasts. Can any one say Striped Set? So i rebooted iimmediatly and set up a Raid 0 THen reinstalled. Unfortunately i succeeded in loosing my stupid Win XP Product key. So i was stuck loading my old Win 2k OS. After installing everything. I load up 3dmark03 Now my old set up best score on 3dmark03 was in the 4500 range, which is very good. Now i shutter to hell on Test 2, a little on 3 and pretty good on nature as well. I have NO idea where this damn shuter came from but its DRIVING me nuts! Ive tried old Omega 2355 at first. Then i went to the new Cats. Now im in the process of trying the new Omega drivers again... I do have the most recent 4in1's for the kt600 chipset. Im not sure where to go next does any one have any suggestiion? I dont know whether its my stripe set raid screwing things up or maybe its Windows 2000 and the old 9700 pro boards just being unstable as it has always been. Dont get me wrong when i get this baby stable it flys like a rocket. but untill then its a headache. Any one got any advice out there? thanks Last edited by Beaon; Dec 11, 2003 at 05:13 PM. |

I have installed The new Omega Drivers and i still shutter
This time i let the benchmark test finish and I scored 4789. Wow! its so much higher, so am I shuttering!!! id rather get a lower score with a smooth run then a shutting POS Ive ran other benchmarks as well. FFXI Benchmark Aquamark All of these are scoring under what i used to score before I installed the raid. Right now im going to reinstall the system with XP and see if maybe im just having petty driver issues. The 9700 boards always had stability issues. |

If the only big difference is your hard drives it makes sense the SATA controller/driver may be the issue. Make sure you're using the latest official BIOS for your motherboard, and download the latest motherboard drivers as well.

i found my key and installed windows XP. At that point graphics should be loaded into memory and not touching the Hard drives.
The shuttering is gone but now windows XP is having real serious issues handling this Sata raid. Im geetting weird crap like when i shutdown it tells me when its ok to turn off the system. If i press the power button it shuts the whole power off like it was a AT board If i turn off the system the only way i can get it to load windows again is if i reset the cmos. so i have no idea =( here is my post on my new error ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greetings, Im trying to get a Raid 0 Striped set to function on my Windows XP. After installing the operating system I run into some intresting problems. For starters i cannot set my power button as a Shutdown Button in the power menu options in the control panel If i press the power button it shuts down the system immediatly cutting the power, it will not shutdown windows THe power option in control panel does not allow me to fix this. 2 If i shutdown windows it shuts down, then tells me It is now safe to turn off your system However this ATX board should simply just turn off. its acting like its an AT board now here is the most irritating thing. If i use a regular shutdown the system will not restart, it hangs right at the SATA Raid menu during the post. The only way i can reboot again is to reset the CMOS reset my settings and then it will find the striped set and load from it. Oddly enough though if i restart windows it reloads just fine. Someone please help =( |
